Hello.
recently I've been researching electric cigarettes and I found this awesome forum.
I'm interested in buying a starter kit so I skimmed through a couple of posts here and below is what I've come up with.
The reason I'm still posting this thread is because a lot of the posts were from years ago.
I'm just looking for general opinions on what I've chosen below.

Basic self background:
I live in Canada (cannot buy from sites who don't ship to canada)
I smoke an average of 1 king pack (24 cigs) per day, regular strength, belmonts; mostly by myself in my room.

Starter Kit:
Site: E Cig Arsenal - Genuine Boge Leo & Innokin Leo Pro Discount Store!
Kit: Leo Royal Combo Starter Kit - 2 Complete E Cigs!
Price: $54.95 including shipping

E-liquid:
Site: Alien Visions E-Juice
Juice:
Camel - 18mL
555 - 18mL
Flue Cured - 18mL
Price: $10.15 / 18mL bottle + $4.15 shipping
nicotine dosage: 6mg, 12mg, 18mg, 24mg

I would like opinions on the following:
-is the starter kit I've chosen good for a newbie? is the price fair? is there a better kit for a similar price (that ships to canada)?
-which of the 3 flavours I've listed are your favourite? (i would like to try two of the three).
-Is there a better e-liquid site?
-what dose of nicotine is recommended for regular, pack a day smokers? (I'm leaning toward the 24's but just want to make sure)

Thank you for reading this,
any input / opinions are greatly appreciated.

The kit should be fine, I recommend to start with cartomizers though, and I see they also have a DCT, dual coil cart tank advertised as well. Price seems o.k., you may be able to do better, but I don't keep up with who ships to canada.
Alien visions is excellent juice, I have tried the Camel and it is excellent, try the gorilla juice as well, and of course Boba's bounty, it will open new worlds for you. Good luck. P.S. I quit a year and a half ago and don't miss it ever.

I'm also not familiar with who ships to canada and who doesn't but I can say the number one recommended starter device is Egos. They offer great battery life and regulated voltage down until the battery is dead. You can also get those for around the same price if not cheaper then the kit you're looking at. They aren't cig sized though but honestly if you stick to vaping you are going to get over that quickly, at least most people do.

I was a 3 pack a day smoker and found 24mg to be too much for me so I've stuck with 12mg pretty much from the start. Start with what you want and adjust accordingly.

Also I cant say too much about tobacco flavors I avoided them from the start and find them all to be a little gross. One of the things that drew me to vaping was all of the assorted flavors that are offered. I can say menthol smokers should have any easy time switching because I hated menthol cigs but menthol ejuices are awesome.

Bottom line is you are doing the right thing. Research and become an informed consumer. This hobby is so preference based so there is a lot of trial and error when you start. Good luck!

Thank you for the input;
the gorilla juice and boba's bounty are both out of stock at the moment
I will definately keep it in mind though,

I've read from a lot of posts that cartomizers are more frustrating and most prefer atomizers?
However, ecigarsenal offers 1 XL cartomizer if I decide I dont want the box that the product comes in.
I'll go with that option to try it out =)

Welcome to ECF, eh?

Get your post count up to more than 5 and you can ask your fellow Canucks in the Canadian sub-forum for advice on Canada-based suppliers of everything to do with the wide, weird, wonderful world of vaping!

I'll look into it; however, Canadian suppliers dont offer nicotine e-liquid, (which is why I prefer not to buy e-liquids from canadian suppliers)

Doesn't Canadian Customs stop e-liquid shipments?

yes, yes they do. I would always ask for discreet shipping before purchasing. Usually isn't a problem with most things.

thank you for the review,
I will look up eGo's starter kits. All of the eGo kits I've found so far are double the price (when matching whats included in each kit).
out of curiosity, have you tried the Boge Leo? Or do people generally just buy eGo as starters?
I am looking for something cost-effective (more motivating to make the switch).

I'm a bit weary on ordering menthol e-liquid because I also hate menthol cigarettes.
However, I am looking forward to trying Boba's Bounty and Gorilla Juice whenever they become available.

thanks again,

this one is dirt cheap and you get three 10ml e-liquids of your choice for free: Ego Tank System -1000 mah

in fact its cheaper than the kit you were looking it which didn't include any juice. 30ml of juice should last you about 2 weeks so you won't need to order any additional juice until after you receive the kit.

Welcome to the forum! OK, I'm a noob too, but I have done research. Your rig seems resonable for a starter kit. If your like many unfortunate soles, you'll become hooked on the neat little gadgets that are out there in many price ranges. Still beats smoking the stinkies though, doesn't it?

My first failed attempt was falling for the "free trial" e-cig gimmick. My first set up that actually works is a v2 cig-a-like, which I am currently using. I bought it before joining this very informative forum with truely great, and knowledgeable people.

My next thought is a Volcano Lavatube and a Vivi Nova. If I continue vaping either as a hobby, or new addiction, I may consider a Provari, and maybe a Phiniac Tank. I don't have a bottomless bank account, that's why I'm leaning toward for the higher quality rigs. Pay more up front, save more in the long run, and be overall happier to boot.

What ever you wind up with, it's far better than smoking the stinkies! Relax, take your time, learn, enjoy! Just don't smoke cigarettes any more and your health will improve.

WOW, that's a fantastic price! thank you! so many flavour options! (and 40% off e-liquids!)
definitely a much better deal!
this is the kit I'm going to go with =)

I'm going to order the following flavours to try

50%pg/50%vg, 24mg, Extra-Flavour, 10mL each
NATURALS - No-Bake Cake
Mocha Java Drizzle
ICE eJuice - Ice ICE

70%pg/30%vg, 24mg, Extra-Flavour, 10mL

I just got a sample juice pack from Vape Dudes. They seem to make good juice. I've tried the No-Bake Cake and Mocha Java Drizzle that you plan to order and liked both. When starting out, I feel its just as important to find a couple of good juices you don't mind vaping on most of the day, as is finding a good starting PV. It's also a good idea to try a cross section of different flavors in different categories such as tobacco, menthol, candy or desert, coffee, fruits, etc

Be aware that some flavors may need to steep for a week or two to reach their full flavor potential. If you don't like it immediately, shelve it for a week and try it again. You might be surprised a "bad" flavor turns into a pretty good one.

When vaping, be sure to exhale both thru your nose and mouth. Our sense of taste is strongly linked to our sense of smell. This is why food and drink can seem tasteless when we have a head cold. Most of my flavors I seem to taste more thru the nasal exhale.

Start out with at least 16mg nicotine content, if not higher. When you re-order juice, you can adjust the strength accordingly to how satisfactory you got your nic fix.

I personally feel its ok to smoke an occassional cigarette the first week or so if you feel you need to. If you vape much more than you smoke, the cigs will quickly become less satisfying and you will begin to prefer the juice over the cigs entirely.

Finally, good luck. YOU CAN DO THIS!

thank you for the comment =)
I just placed an order for the eGo
V2 was the first one I saw when searching for e-cigs. Their shipping costs to canada are very high though, =(
the volcano lavatube is kinda cool. doesn't look anything like a cigarette,
I'll look into volcano after I get my package (if I fall in love with this) =)

thanks again,

thanks for the tips!
I'll keep them in mind when it gets here =)
I remember the taste-smell relationship from a past experiment we did a couple years ago.
we couldn't taste the difference between different flavours of skittles when holding our nose;

There seems to be a lot of variation in how long these carts last,
but assuming on average 10ml lasts 1 week
I have enough for 7 weeks =D (really looking forward to it)
