Hi everyone,

Ok so i am really needing your help.

Started vaping last Monday (1 week down and no cigs :)

I purchased a Mini Istick 10w with the Aspire K1 glassomizer. I have the 1.8ohm coil things, a BDC coil though.

The nicotine level i'm using at present is 18mg, but it does seem to burn/hurt my throat but i have been told that is down to the high nicotine level. Will be reducing this.

A friend has just given me a 50w Istick, with some huge mouth piece on it (I dont even no what it is called) but i dont like the feel of it being so big and not being able to smoke it as a cigarette.

What i would like to do is use the 50w Istick with the K1 Glassomizer as i like the mouth piece but when trying them together i get no smoke. I do want a fair bit of smoke but dont want to sacrifice taste.

Would i need a new coil for this? if so please help with names etc.

I also dont get the difference between an atomizer and tank?? What coils do i need to look for? What am i looking for? Dont even know the difference or what they look like?

Also can you only use a particular pg/vg % with certain coils etc, i'm happy i think on 50/50, have a couple jucies 60/40, i dont really see/feel a difference.

Think i jumped in with my eyes closed but really want to continue on the vape train :)

Any help will be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Can't help with the mouth piece and vapor issue. However, an atomizer is the general term for whatever it is you use to heat up your juice. It can come in various forms but the most popular ones are either in a tank or dripper form.

As you're fairly new to this you will most likely be dealing with an atomizer in tank form (it has a glass part that holds a certain amount of juice).

As for coils, since again you're new to this you want to purchase prebuilt coils specifically for the tank that you're using. So say if you had a uwell crown tank you want to search for UWELL crown coils.

Generally there's 2 things you want to consider in a prebuilt coil.
1. Coil material (kanthal, ss, nickel, titanium, Clapton etc)

2. Resistance level (in ohms: the lower the resistance, lower ohms, means more clouds but more power required from your mod)

Hi and welcome. Your K1 should work on your iStick 50. Using your 1.8 coils, you'll probably want to be in the 7-10 watt range; I wouldn't exceed 12 watts. You already know what coils you want; just search for "Aspire K1 coils" and select the 1.8 ones when you get there. If you are not getting enough vapor, Aspire makes a 1.6 coil for that tank which should improve it some. Those can be run up into the 14-15 watt range. If that's still not enough, you'll want a different tank. An Aspire Nautilus would pair well with your iStick and would provide some improvement. Ditto a GS Air.

Thank you so much for your reply.

Really helps with the resistance level, il make note of that
and i will have to check what the coil material is as i havent got a clue :)

Thank you again

Have you tried turning the mini down to it's lowest settings?

I, too, use an iStick mini when I'm out and about. As I generally vape 24mg eliquid, I have mine set to the lowest settings.

Here's a pic of mine with a GS16S topper on it.

Hi @Emma Nairn and welcome to the forum. Reducing the nicotine will help with the throat hit/burn.

The 50 w iStick is a nice mod, but I have no manner to know what tank (clearomizer/atomizer) you are using on it.

To use the K1 on the 50watt you would need a 510 to eGo adapter. I assume you already have it on as you have tried and gotten "no smoke" (vapor). I would first check that the gear is tightened correctly.

The iStick 50watt is 5 clicks of the fire button to turn on /off. When you press the fire button with the K1 on the 50 watt what does the LED say? (little window on side of iStick)

Make certain the iStick 50 watt is set to 6 watts BEFORE use. 3 clicks will switch between watts and volts. Set to WATTS... use arrow keys to adjust power setting in watts.

If it is "locked" you will need to unlock the mods settings. To "lock/unlock" hold down BOTH arrow keys at the same time for 3 seconds and the LED will say "unlocked". Then you can use the arrow keys to set the power to 6 watts. Then take a hit and you can bump the power up (one watt at a time with the K1). Repeat. Take another hit, and if it tastes funny, is too warm or starts to taste burnt, back the power down.

I read the K1 uses Aspire BVC coils of 1.6, 1.8, or 2.1 ohm. (coils are the atomizer part of the tank/clearomizer/glassomizer) On most websites of the K1 it will have a link to the proper coils for that tank//clearomizer/glassomizer. You MUST use the coils for that SPECIFIC glassomizer, no others will fit.

Your juice content (50/50 or 60/40) is good for that glassomizer.

I am guessing you are in the UK....

I would suggest looking into the Aspire Nautilus Mini, as it pairs great with the 50 watt iStick (far right in pic below, and on center Spinner 2)

Good luck, you'll be fine.

Thank you for replying,

On my coils it says 1.8(weird squiggle) then (3.0-5.0v) what does this mean? i assumed it meant that i couldn't go above 5v with that coil?

I have looked at the nautilus, think i may be getting that next.

Thank you

the weird squiggle is a Greek letter, a capital Omega. It is the universal symbol for "ohms," a measure of electrical resistance and how coils are graded. In general, the higher the value, the less and cooler vapor it will make, the less juice it will consume, and the less battery power it will use and tolerate; lower values are comparatively opposite. You are correct the V (or volts) is a rating for minimum and maximum rated volts for that coil. It doesn't mean you can't go outside that range, but so doing may shorten the life of the part. I am not sure your iStick will work in variable voltage mode. I am sure it does in watts. If your machine works in volts, it's perfectly fine to use that mode, and yes, you should stick under the 5V rating. I just calculated the rating of that coil; a 1.8 coil at 5V makes 13.89 watts, so if you are using watts mode, that is the maximum rating.

Hi Emma Nairn. Welcome to the ECF.

The Mouth Piece that goes on an Atomizer is what we refer to as a "Drip Tip". They come in Every Size and Shape and Material imaginable. The Diameter of the end that goes into the Atomizer is pretty much a Universal Diameter. And it is called a "510".

BTW - The Size of the Hole in the Center of a Drip Tip that the Vapor goes thru can have a Very Big Effect on what the hit you get taste like.

A Drip Tip with a Smaller Hole give you a Tighter Draw. Whereas a Drip Tip with a Big Inner Hole will give you an Airy Draw.

It is Very Common for someone to use the Drip Tip that came with one Atomizer on another Atomizer. Or to Buy Drip Tips that have a Similar Shape/Inner Hole to something they like, and then Not Use the Drip Tip that came with an Atomizer.

ETA: You will also find that on Most Atomizers, that there are some Holes in the Side of the Base. These Holes let the Air enter the Atomizer. There is Usually some kind of Ring that lets you Control just How Much Air can enter. We call this the Air Flow Control Ring.

Adjusting this Air Flow Ring can have a Huge Effect on the Hit you get also. And lets you Fine Tune things.
