Hi all, I tried the types that come in two parts with no liquid, taste pretty bad.

I think if I can work out the taste I will continue with ecigs.

Just don't understand what to use, atomizer or cartomizer ? What's the difference between the two and which one should I get

Money is not the issue, getting off cigs and finding an ecig that works and tastes good is the mission

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have

Sounds like you used the atomizer and did not clean it. There's usually machine oil in it.

Hang in there and welcome to ECF!

Atomizer- This is your heating element only. Some people attach a cartridge, many do not like cartridges. When you vape you can't really get the greatest inhale. Dripping is what most use atomizers for. You put about 3 drops directly onto the atomizer. Put the atomizer on your battery, then attach a drip tip. That's how it gets the name dripping. Vape. Vape. When the flavor turns, starts to taste a little burnt(better to do it before any burning taste happens) you add an additional 2-3 drops of liquid though the drip tip that will fall onto the atomizer. Vape, and repeat!

Cartomizer- This is your heating element(atomizer) and a cartridge combined. Many use and verify Boge and Smoke tech to be good brands. Boge seems to be a better single, normal cartomizer while Smoke-tech shines as a duel coil cartomizer. After vaping a while a majority rely on these. With a boge, you add about 20-30 drops on the first fill around the middle empty circle. Be careful not to get juice in the middle! There is also the condom method of filling. 20 drops of liquid into the cartomizer condom(it comes with the cartomizer to protect it) then just put the cartomizer into the condom mouth piece/side down. Let it sit about 15-20 minutes. Check, if it doesn't look nice and moist add a couple more drops until it does. They last about an hour before needing to be filled again. Cartomizers however NEED to be kept wet. A burnt cartomizer is one who's life won't last long. As mentioned with the atomizer, when it starts to taste off add a couple more drops or untill it looks moist again. Cartomizers IMHO are the only safe way to vape and drive.

--Oh ya! Almost forgot. You can also attach a drip tip onto a cartomizer for a more comfortable vape.

Hopefully that helps clear it up for ya!

Have you bought your e-cigg yet? Still deciding on what you want? If you haven't don't overlook the stickies on top for new members. They're really helpful articles available.

I hope you added liquid to it before vaping it. If you didn't, you got a horrible burnt taste? The blanks/empties have to be filled prior to use.

As for which one to get, it's all in what your taste buds like. I prefer cartomizers but others love atomizers. Unfortunately, no one but you can decide that.

Beginners E-Cig Tutorial

Kind of a long read, but it should explain everything.

Atomizers are basically a piece that heats up the eliquid and makes vapor, you can use them with cartridges, which will feed liquid into them, or you can drip liquid directly into a atomizer. A cartomizer is a one piece system, where it has a atomizer inside of it, with polyfill around it, to fill these you just drip liquid and get the filler wet. I assume you got cartomizers that were prefilled with liquid, the juice in them probably is just bad. You could get more cartomizers, and some juice, and i'm sure you'll find something you like. Do you know what kind of ecig you have?

If you do want to get a new ecig, we need more information to help you. Like, if you want something looks and feels similiar to cigarettes, or if you are ok with something bigger. Bigger stuff is usually always manual, but manual is better. Anway, i'll wait for you to reply before saying more.

edit: heh i type slow, lots of helpful people here.

We use eliquid in everything. We buy models that have blank cartomizers available. (cartomizer holds juice AND screws right on the battery).

Most popular 2-piece is KR808D-1: V4L.com, SmokelessImage/Bloogplanet/Halocigs G6 style, Cigeasy Elegant Easy, plain manufacturer KR808D-1 etc. All are KR808D-1 threaded. And on a manual (pushbutton) battery (which is all I use and what most use - harder to damage/kill with juice leaks, easier to get a good hit) you can put a standard resistance DSE901 atomizer and drip tip on it for testing liquids without dirtying a cartomizer. There are also plenty of prefilled cartomizers from the places I listed above and we keep them damp with the same or a compatible eliquid. If you don't keep cartomizers damp they will singe and give an awful burnt bitter taste. If you keep them damp you should be able to get 4-10 days use out of each depending on how clear your eliquid is (how sediment-free it is), how well you keep it damp, how well your eliquid flows, how much you vape. I can get 7-10 days use out of a cartomizer.

And if you move up to the fat-battery long charge models or mods, those are usually 510 threaded (few prefilled cartomizers available). Many people use an atomizer and drip tip to test new juices and vape occasional ones and blank cartomizers they have filled with their favorite everyday juices.

Some people use atomizer + cartridges to vape but most don't after they move on the cartomizers.
