Considered starting smoking again then discovered vaping

Before anyone jumps on me for wanting to start using e-cigs after not smoking for however long, let me tell you a little story...

I smoked when I was 16, and rather enjoyed it. I only smoked for, and when with my boyfriend (my parents didn't know and he was of age to buy). I was young, and stupid. So after he was gone, I quit, cold turkey, and I took it pretty damn well.

Now, I'm 19, living with my parents, as a single mother. Things with the 'rents are VERY stressful, and I can't exactly move out at the moment due to some personal issues.

Along with that stress, I've been dealing with anxiety and depression (not exactly related to the personal issues). I've done research and found many valid articles stating that low levels of nicotine help with anxiety and depression. I've tried other ways to deal with everything, healthy and unhealthy... I just don't want to be medicated to treat my problems.

So basically, I want to vape to deal with the stress, anxiety and depression. That, along with the fact that the second hand vapor is pretty much harmless, so it'd be alright with my son around (i wouldn't vape with him RIGHT in my face).

So this brings me to the purpose of this thread. Would this be a good idea, considering I haven't smoked in a while?

Anything helpful you could tell me would be nice.... and as this is my very first post, i'd appreciate it if people wouldn't bite me for wanting to start with nicotine again after quitting. I know people generally use e-cigs to quit...

Maybe you could try zero-nic if you just want a relaxing hobby. Hearing from many people here how they decrease their nicotine very slowly, and wind up using little and some use none at all, just flavor. If that gives some relaxation and enjoyment, try starting there.

As to whether or not you should start at all, you can answer that best. Really wouldn't want to persuade you one way or the other. If you just wind up doing it to have fun, nothing against that either. Welcome and good to meet you.

Vaping, from what I have experienced, is nothing like smoking a regular cigarette, first of all they intentionally add in impurities to have more of an amplified effect in the form of that 'head rush' you get from the first couple of pulls/drags. Part of the reason why I ended up stopping smoking and smokeless tobacco use out right was due to the lack of the 'head rush' feeling.

In ecigs, its just pure nicotine, you will not get the same high feeling as you did with regular tobacco products due to the lack of impurities.

As a Dad and an old person, I would say it is not a good idea.

I wouldn't even go there. We are here trying to quit.

Get a good stroller and take the baby out for a long walk. Exercise more. Eat better. Learn how to communicate with the parents.

It might be your solution, but I would try other stuff first. It isn't free. I am sure you could use the money elsewhere.

I already take the little one out for hours at a time. We go for walks and run around the yard and everything. I eat healthy and exercise like I should. Like I already said, Ive tried other ways to cope with the stress/anxiety/depression, and nothing has really helped all that much. I've tried too many things.

Things with my parents aren't as simple as a typical mouthy know-it-all 19 year old. It's differences in parenting styles, how I feel my child should eat better foods than what we always buy. Along with my father being an alcoholic and picking arguments with me for no damn reason and making it nearly impossible to just ignore him. And them calling me lazy, among other things, even though I always make an effort to help around the house with anything I absolutely can.

I know its definitely not free... I've already got money saved up for my first set up and everything. and I've already figured out that I will be able to afford it in the future.

But I am still just considering it.

You should do what you feel is best for you! If you are thinking of going back to analogs then by all mean try vaping! Get you an ego-t to start with and some low level nic juice and see how that goes. If it doesn't do it then try going up in the nicotine. By all means don't start smoking analogs again and try to stay with the lowest nic. I would hate to see someone that as quit smoking have to start back again! But you do what you feel is right and if you have a vape shop near you then go visit it and see what you think! Good luck!

Thanks! I've been eyeing up the ego c-twist starter sets on a few sites for a few nights now, and then about an hour and a half ago, i accidentally found out that there is a shop about an hour and a half's drive from me. I definitely want to go check it out, but I just need a drive...

(not directed at you) ... Last I checked, e-cigs are not specifically made to help people quit smoking. They're simply an alternative to smoking, with the juices having different nicotine levels for people who smoke less/weaker cigarettes or those who smoke more/heavier cigarettes.... So its all nice and well that people are using them to quit. Great! But saying that if you don't smoke, you shouldn't vape.... that's just ridiculous. Some people want to smoke because they enjoy it but don't want the nasty sh--t that is in regular cigarettes, being the chemicals and things that are not nicotine. Others, don't want the nicotine, either. That's nice, too. I, however loved it and would have kept smoking if not for the chemicals and nasties you take in from smoking.

.... I'll end that rant now.. it probably doesn't even make sense :')

I actually help out at a vape shop and there are many people that have gotten down to zero nic and still vape. They are still addicted to the hand to mouth motion. Others enjoy the flavors you can get. I guess I broaden my horizons to let peoprle do what they want. Like I said if you feel the want of some nicotine, I would highly suggest vaping instead of smoking like you said. I hope one day to get down to zero nic and I will prob still be vaping because I enjoy it :D

I wouldn't recommend it.
That being said, I agree with what most people have said here. Start small. If you want some nicotine, but a bottle of 6mg nic, and a bottle of 0. Start with 0, but after a few days, if that isn't working, try adding 20% or so of the 6mg for a week. I'd go that route if I had it to do again.

I know a ton of people will probably disagree with me on this, but I don't consider it a healthy habit. There is still a lot unknown about vaping, I believe it is healthier than cigarettes, but going without is probably better...

It also isn't cheap. If you are going to go ego, do it and stay of the forum... Lol I've talked myself into buying a TON of gear the past few weeks, chasing better flavor... This technology is moving FAST... You have to have a lot of cash to be on top of what will get you the best of whatever it is you are looking for... All IMO of course.

All that said... I quit smoking at 25 on blu, didn't smoke for a year, then moved to a place where EVERYONE smokes. It caused my cravings to kick up like crazy, so I went on the hunt for "better than blu" and found it. I started out just vaping when out and about, when the cravings kicked up (on 12mg nic). Now I chain vape all day on 0 to 6mg nic juice (mostly 6 lately). So all that I started with makes me a big fat hypocrite!

In all seriousness, no one can tell you what is right for you. Good luck to you, and I hope whatever you decide improves your life for the better!

I started vaping after being tobacco-free for almost 14 years.

In my case, it is helping me lose weight (I don't snack anymore and have an easier time differentiating real hunger from boredom/stress hunger) and helps with ADD. It has all the things I loved about smoking (and more!) and nothing I didn't. I started at 0mg, but moved to 6mg which is where I will stay.

My boyfriend is an occasional smoker (though when we were much younger he smoked much more) and vapes for fun.

My neighbor across the street is trying to quit drinking and I handed down my eGo and mini Protank 2 to her and have been supplying her with 6mg DIY juice. She started at 0mg but finds the 6mg is calming. She's said several times that vaping has really helped her get through these first weeks without drinking (she also suffers from clinical depression). She's also a former smoker.

I don't think vaping is only a smoking cessation method, though most people who do it do it to try to quit or used to smoke in the past. It's fun, it tastes good, and I find it really satisfying and soothing.

It can get expensive though for some people (some people being me included :D ) if you start getting into gear and flavor-chasing.

Good luck! I don't see any reason why you shouldn't try it and then continue if it seems to help.

Edited to add: I was also a single mom at 18. Hang in there. :)

The cravings really suck.. Both of my parents chain smoke, so it's really a constant thing for me. I even find myself wanting to steal one of their spare packs once in a while. But I'm so glad I don't.

I think that once I get a bit more money together, I will invest in a good setup for myself and try out some juices. So far I've been looking on all kinds of sites and putting different juices in my cart, all of being 6mg nic and 0. i will not go any higher, as I was a light smoker back then and figure I couldn't handle more.

I've gotta say, just researching, watching videos and e-window shopping has made all of this an obsession already.

Hi Scarlet and welcome.

I can't tell you what to do--you're an adult and I myself started smoking when I was 16 and spent pretty much the rest of my life trying to quit...

I have two daughters your age--one is 21 the other one will turn 19 in a few weeks. I'm so happy they are both non-smokers.

I don't know if vaping will help you solve any problems you're experiencing right now, or help alleviate the stress--it may make things better but it may also make things worse.

Whatever you decide, keep all hardware and ejuices under lock and where your child won't be able to access it. Kids are curious and can get hurt--they can swallow small parts or drink eliquid.

Good luck.

Well, e-cig manufacturers are always pointing out in their small print that theirs are lifestyle products and NOT smoking-cessation devices.

They have to and they want to. Cuz if they made therapeutical claims we'd be in the realm of medical products and pharmaceuticals with all it's complicated and horrendously expensive procedures.

If buyers use the product to wean themselves off tobacco products and/or off nicotine - that's their business. Same if I sold you a hammer. If you decide to whack it over someone's head instead of out putting a nail in the wall, it's you that has to deal with the consequences...

Recent research did show that nicotine may not be the evil culprit incarnate after all, and puffing away at a PV does relax. And as harm reduction is the key, I'd rather you vape low nic than pick up the analogs. Is the less unhealthy option. Seeing that the situation at home is a bit tense already, smoking cigarettes might only aggravate that, and you really don't need additional grief right now.
3 to 4 mg/ml might suffice to ease the woes of the spirit...

Maybe I'l draw some flak for my point of view. But I do have a buddy who's been pretty high-strung occasionaly. Used to smoke a bid fat shisha once or twice a week. He asked for some vaping gear and a low level nic: So I set him up with 900mAh ego plus iclear16 atty, handmixed 4mg/ml juice and he's doin' fine. So if it works for him it might work for you as well. :)

Imo you are an adult and are allowed to make decisions for yourself. Only you know what is best for you. Its your life ;)

With that said, my husband is a non smoker.
But every once inawhile he borrows my vape.
He had become a energy drink junkie to the point it was upsetting me. Not because of him drinking them but the unlimited supply of energy drinks and two teen boys in the house wasnt making mama happy lol.

Anyway, he says he enjoys a good vape session on his ride home from work. And on the weekends while doing his computer gaming thing.
Who am i to tell him not to?

He usually just vapes the juices i dont like. And a 2.5 ml tank lasts him three or more days.
We arent drinkers, we arent party goers.
Some family members have said something to him and i heard lie a few times says its zero nic.
Whatever i understand.

I did not start vaping to quit. I started because i have a two year old and was spending a unhealthy amount of time on the front porch smoking, but now that ive started vaping, my goal,is to quit cigs. Although i dont tell people that.im down to three or so a day.

I cant speak for every one, but i wont judge ya.

I'd avoid eBay. Pick up a visa and buy from a reputable vendor. After you figure out what setups you like and can afford, post a thread on here asking for opinions. People can tell you what you may not like about the device and suggest some possible alternatives.

I started vaping because I moved in with my inlaws while completing a cross country move and looking for a new house. It is VERY difficult to live with smokers as a former smoker. I got a joyetech 1300mAh and a few evod tanks, and that took away the cravings very effectively!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
