My Mom had hospice for a little over 5 days, the last 5 days of a very quick battle with a very aggressive cancer. (i'll tell the story later if i can find the strength) Hospice workers are truly remarkable people doing, what would be to most people, a very difficult job. Somehow all the wonderful people I met while my Mom and my husband's Uncle were taken care of by Hospice workers maintain the positive attitude that they are helping people die with dignity and it is ok to die. This work would break my heart! Thank you and bless you for what you do! People like you are proof of the good in life!

I work in Hospice.
I care for people at the end of their lives.

I have friends who ask me, 'How can you do that?' and 'Isn't it depressing?'

I answer, 'No, no, it's not depressing at all. It's life-affirming.'

We are all going to die.
It's true - shocking to you, I know.

But when the end comes, with Hospice care,
you don't have to die alone.
You don't have to die in pain.
You don't have to suffer quietly without solace.

Even if I can do no more for you than hold your hand and be present for you, I will do that.

I am so blessed to be able to be a part of so many lives even if only for a short time.

My work reminds me to be grateful for every day.

My Nephew, who my Mom raised with help from me and my husband, moved to Colorado last year for work. It has been so difficult for me to be away from him, his wife and his son (who I love spending time with and teaching). I had not been able to visit them at all because I am taking care of my 90 year old Grandma and can't leave her and she can't deal with the altitude where he is. Last month they came and stayed with us for two weeks!!! I got to watch their son, play with him, swim with him, cook with him, dig in the dirt with him, put him to bed at night and stay with him in case he awoke and was scared. I had such a great time, I just love that little guy. We were all able to go out to dinner together, go to Disneyland and constantly had all the boys (now 24 or 25) from the neighborhood and from high school at the house. We BBQd for all the boys a couple times and it was just nice to have all the "kids" at the house again. It was wonderful!!!

Thank you so much, MrsCasey!

Hospice is a blessing to so many in so many ways...

It is about quality of life -

not the amount of days that each of us has left, but the amount of life in each of those days...

Hospice is about remembering that, even at the end, life is good...

post #1 My DD-D-I-L just crocheted this scoodie for me. I suffer from RSD - a painful nerve disease which I have had 16 yrs now. When I am exposed to any little bit of cold air, my body cannot warm up. This is b/c my nerves prevent blood flow, so my extremities get super cold and painful. This scoodie is going to be a godsend for me come fall and winter. I usually have to wear a hat and scarf or ear muffins inside the house. The scoodie will replace all of those and help keep me warm and toasty.
Wasn't that sweet of her to crochet this for me. ( I know that nicotine doesn't help my disease, but it is one of the few pleasures I have left and I am loathe to give it up. At least I quit smoking!) View attachment 116718

post #3 This post is about American RSDHope - a group on the net that offers hope, support and information to all
those who suffer from RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy). I found this group when I was first diagnosed and they
have been my beacon of hope over the past 16 yrs. They help thousands of RSDers every day.
They have made my life GOOD. thank you American RSDHope. (*;*)
