Converting to E Cigs with regards to Nicotine content.

Hi all I am so new to vaping I just found it online yesterday... as soon as I saw it I feel in love... It is exactly what I wanted... the last time I tried just to cut back I sat on the couch smoking my analog (I love that name... it makes me laugh) wishing I could smoke a cig, have the feeling of it in my hand, inhale, taste, exhale without all the nasty stuff that's gonna kill me... I do not want to die but I can't seem to give it up... and then i found the ecig... omg i can't believe it... here it is the answer to my prayers... anyway what I want to ask is could i just go with the 0 nic ejuice... i know i would go through the withdrawls from nic but if i had something i could puff on anytime i wanted at least the habit would still be there right... i have 2 very little kids and i'm scared to have nicotine n a bottle... i know i know i smoke but i don't do around my babies... not in the house or car... i'm rambling i know but i'm so excited :) so does the 0 nic ejuice affect the throat hit which i know would be important to me... i really want to give up nic period am i crazy for doing it this way... i smoke about a 1 1/2 packs a day... newport 100s...

But Vee, have you read this thread, indicating we may well be not absorbing nearly as much nicotine from our use of ecigs as we may think?

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...5034-nicotine-absorbtion-vaping-research.html

I hadn't read that, no. That's a *very* interesting find. Still, it's preliminary data not yet replicated for error. Questions such as, was it a pre-filled cart from the factory? Was it a brand new e-cig? Was it fresh filled? Was the atomizer primed? Etc. Those all could have an effect on results.

Even so, whatever the amount actually going into our body, without blood tests, we can only gauge what we are taking in by the ml we use each day. It's still valuable info. If I'm using 1.5 ml / day @ 18mg / ml = 27mg / day @ 10% absorption = 2.7mg / day.

Still valuable info either way. It'll be interesting to hear the final results of the doc's research. It wouldn't shock me if it's true, though. I've been slowly reducing my analog smoking while vaping to the point, 5 days ago, where I stopped analogs completely. I feel almost like I've gone cold turkey! I didn't feel like that even when I put myself down to 4 analogs / day.

Excuse me while I go get some Snus :D

A typical packet of 20 will contain about 22mg of nicotine. A typical high nicotine cartridge will contain about 18mg. Almost a full packet.

There is another piece to this. Of the 22mg of nic in a pack of cigarettes you are not going to ingest all of that when you smoke them because the cigarette is burning all the time weather you are inhaling or not. With the liquid, if it is making smoke you getting the nic out of it.

I was going through my notes and I came across something that didn't mean anything to me at the time, but now it does.

A: Yes, all the liquid we sell comes with nicotine strength instruction. For example we have 18mg on the bottle meaning 18mg/1g liquid. Each 302 v8 cartridge contains 1g liquid. Each mini ecig cartridge contains 0.33g liquid. So you can work out the nicotine content accordingly. Other instructions are added depending on wholesaler's needs.

Does this seem right?

Yes, and that's virtually the same as I just posted above in response to your first question about how much per cartridge:

It depends on the cart. For example, a penstyle will hold close to 1 ml, a 901 probably under 1/2 ml, and a super mini even less yet.

Note that 1g approximately equals 1ml. And the 901 is most often called a "mini".

Yes. Liquid strength is measured/labeled at mg per gram, which is virtually the same as mg per ml.

The only exception to that so far is Johnson Creek, which measures their liquid at mg per 1.2 ml, for their own reasons. So JC liquid labeled as 18mg strength, for example, will be less strong than any other liquid labeled as 18mg strength.

Please see this:

E-cig News: Dr. Laugesen's report on the Ruyan e-cigarette as shown to the Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco conference in Dublin April, 2009

If this doctor is correct that it takes 72 puffs on an ecig to equal one tobacco cig, this throws off attempts that have been made to do an accurate conversion from tobacco cigs to ecigs. This would mean that it would take about 7 cartridges full of eliquid to equal ONE regular cigarette. (Assuming about 10 puffs per cartridge) Does this seem correct to any of you?

Wasn't awake when I typed original message about this.
Say one takes 35 "puffs" from one ecig cartridge. At that rate, if you use this doc's figures, that would only be the same as 1/2 of l tobacco cigarette. I've read that 1 ecig cartridge equals about 1 PACK of tobacco cigs. Big difference between 1/2 of 1 tobacco cig vs. 1 pack of tobacco cig.

well heres a chart of the nic content for a few popular brands of combustion cigarettes in my area

Marlboro Reds 0.8mg per cig=16mg per pack
Marlboro Lights 0.6mg per cig12=mg per pack
Camel Filters 0.9mg per cig=18mg per pack
Camel Lights 0.7mg per cig=14mg per pack
Pall Mall Red(Full Flavor) 0.8mg per cig=16mg per pack
Pall Mall Blue(Lights) 0.6mg per cig12=mg per pack
Winston Filters 0.9mg per cig=18mg per pack
Winston Lights 0.6mg per cig12=mg per pack

Nicotine content is taken from manufacturers website

Now as many have said this isnt necessarily the same nic youl get from your e-cig but its a good guide for those of us who are switching from analog to electric.

It is correct that you do not get full absorption of the nicotine contained in the fluid according to the two studies that have been released on it. It is true what the e-liquid vendors say is the amount of nicotine in the bottle. But it's the device that doesn't deliver.

One study measured the nicotine in the system after one puff for e-cig vs analog. Analog measured almost exactly 10 times the amount of nicotine per puff vs e-cig.

But, some on this forum question (myself included) whether more of the nicotine isn't absorbed right away and stays in your system and gets absorbed slowly over time in your body. Until more studies are done, there's no way to know for sure.
