I still use silica but also do micro coils with cotton. I like the ease of changing wicks with cotton but I saw a video on utube that said if you try to dry burn a micro coil on a ProTank or Evod you will melt the rubber insulator. Is that true? I wrap my micro coils at 1.8-2.2 ohms. Seems that my favorite flavors are the dark ones and I dry burn my silica coils often.

I use Sugar n Cream cotton yarn I bought from Michaels.
Same here. I got like 8 miles of it for $2 at Hobby Lobby.

I feed a double strand through an Evod coil with a needle threader. Then add a snip on top as a flavor wick. (this works well for my juice). But honestly, I can't taste any difference in cotton and silica. Yarn is just so easy to work with and you find it everywhere.

I've done this a few times by accident thinking I've already wet the cotton. Nothing burned. 1.5 ohm on a dripper. Of course I don't fire it for 2 minutes either. Generally, I just add 2 drops and wait a minute or so before using. Burning anything dry can't be good in my books.

I used cotton for a while. I am back to silica and have 2 drippers I never used sitting on my work bench for a couple months. I used a dripper for a week. I am back on a tank.

I prefer the silica atm.

Use what you like.

You're like me, it seems a good setup is a good setup, no matter the material and build style. And my preferences change quite often, as it seems yours do as well.

Aye mate. If it works and I am satisfied, I don't care if it costs 300 or 10 bucks. Everyone talked about drippers on here. I bought an IGO and first puff was good. Second, was so so so. Third was ho hum...

It was too much work for me for really no benefit.

I still have 99 feet of Kanthal and a 2 balls of Peaches of Cream in the cabinet. My daughter uses it now to make those yarn designs with her hands.

Cotton is much easier to pull through the coils than silica. After rebuilding for 6 months, I'll just buy coils from now on.

I use cotton yarn in my RM2. It's super easy to change out the wick & I rarely if ever have a burnt wick. I did have burnt wicks a lot with my Kayfun though & it drove me crazy. And I hated having to drain my tank every time I did have a wicking issues, which happened way more times than I find acceptable. In the end I have found that the convenience of a "tank" & being able to access the coil & change wicks/coils easily came with the Reo so now I use those exclusively.

Yes, depending on how well (or poorly) you built the coil. So many people have complained about the rubber taste from the insulator that Kanger is now using silicone, although there is still a lot of old stock out there that have the rubber. I recently received 25 heads from Fasttech and only 3 had the silicone. Lightning Vapes Lightning Vapes - All the RBA Materials you need! Silica Wick, Ekowool, Kanthal Wire, Stainless Steel Mesh and more! carries the silicone.

How often do you have to rewick a clearo (evod) if you wick it with cotton?
That would depend on several factors Bover... The juice, how often you vape and your power to name a few all will impact your coil/wick. The biggest culprit is juice. Thick, syrupy, "sugary" juices will generally clog up your wick faster than a light mild juice. Naturally Extracted Tobacco's (NET's) are also notorious for gunking up your wick/coil really quick. If your using a "gunker" then you may have to rewick every day or two. I love my NET's and I usually do change out my wick daily... even when I was using re-coiled/wicked EVOD's.
My wife on the other hand usually enjoys very light flavored, clear juices and she usually gets about a week out of her cotton wicked EVOD and ProTank mini's.
Running light juices too high (Power wise) can also cause some gunking and scorching fairly quick as well.
