Copenhagen User, Tried E-Cigs - No Luck

Hello all,
I'm a current smokeless tobacco user, have been since I was 17, so over 11 years now. About 2 years ago, I tried an e-cig as an alternative to the Copenhagen I'm used to. I went with the strongest liquid they had (can't remember the % right now) but it did not work for me, I was constantly craving more nicotine. I ended up giving the unit away.

Are there any prior smokeless users on the forum that might be able to share some insight as to what worked for them? Are e-cigs really safer than the Copenhagen I am using now? Do any of you current e-cig users have a suggestion as to what I should purchase to give this another go?

I really want to try this to ultimately quit all nicotine use, and If for some reason, I end up hooked on e-cigs vs. snuff, It still seems like a better alternative (to me anyway). As a father of a 2 year old with one on the way, my health is more important to me than ever.

Thank you for your help

I was able to completely give up skoal and cope with ecigs. You gotta get a good rig like a MVP or something. You can try 36mg juice to start. I did, then to 24, and now i am at 18mg. I dipped for better part of 20 years if I can you can. It was hard for a week then I was totally adjusted. Good luck man. Oh and my jean pockets all look normal now :)

Yeah man I would say a lot safer. They put so much more other stuff in chew to hook you. I also had a little mouth surgery when I was a teen due to chewing. I didn't quit though I got another good 10 years out of it. Then my son said hey dad, I kinda want you around without mouth cancer while I grow up and I said ok son Ill switch to vaping. Best decision I ever made. Now when all my buds offer me a chew I just smile and say no thanks. I know if I ever try it I will fall right down that trap again. Seeing my sons face in my mind really motivated me. Perhaps without that I would have had the same experience you had. Lastly, there are some NET tobacco blends that seemed more satisfying when I first began. Gotta get the right juice, that's key.

GL man. PM me if you need someone to talk to.

I used smokeless and smoked, at the same time, going threw a can and about a pack a day (working on aircraft does this to you i suppose) I haven't gone back to either for over 2 years starting on the Tgo back in the day. I really feel like the tipping point is when cigarette smoke makes you want to hurl and the site of putting dip in your mouth makes you gag. Could be a week or more. I know the taste and sensation isnt the same, but the more you stick with it the less you'll want to go back

Are e-cigs really safer than the Copenhagen I am using now?

I'm not a doctor or an expert on vaping or anything, but my opinion? Yes, vaping compared to smokeless tobacco is a much less risky way to get nicotine.

You can easily adjust your blood level of nic with a vape - it might take a few minutes for the vapor/nic to get into your bloodstream and end a craving, but its just SO many less chemicals in it versus tobacco.

You can start with a high level of nic juice (I started with 24mg, which is more or less similar with an unfiltered cig) and quickly tapered off to 18mg juice, and now I am using 12mg stuff...if I want a stronger juice I just add a few drops of that 24mg stuff in.

Ive only been vaping for a few weeks now, and sure Ive had cravings for a cig, but a few (or a lot) of honks off my gear and thats quickly dealt with.

PennyVaper.com

here is a page that shows nice deals on stuff, and BF/CM deals are popping up pretty much all weekend. I have a Kanger EVOD VV kit with two Kanger protank II minis.

I also have info in my blog post about rebuilding the coils on the Kanger tank and what tools you need to make that easy. Then you get MUCH better vapes.

Folks also rave about the MVP 2.0, that and some Pyrex tanks (like a Kanger protank II, or protank II mini) is not expensive, and certainly not compared to your life/health.

Just make sure to get really tasty juices ;) ..cheap ones can really make for an unpleasant vape experience.

If you are looking for the latest info on the safety of e-cigarettes, CASAA is the source: CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association

If you were using a "cigalike", a cigarette-sized battery, as your first go as an e-cigarette I'm not surprised that you found them to be unsatisfactory. Those batteries are just too small and ineffective to provide the vaporized nicotine that you need to satisfy your urges.

I recommend you avoid those altogether and start out with a variable voltage eGo battery (a Vision Spinner or Joytech Twist) at the minimum. Better yet a mod like an MVP.

You can do it!! It's tough at first but your health will improve greatly in a short period of time. Long time chewer/smoker here. I don't think most people who chew realize what a megadose of nicotine they are getting. When I chewed (tin a day habit), I would overdose every other day and feel sick to my stomach, dizzy, sweaty, and weak. I know that going from a hard core chewing habit to E-cigs is a drastic change, but take your time and you will realize that vaping is just enough to take the edge off long enough to withdraw from those megadoses of nicotine. I started with 18mg (just barely enough to take the edge off) and am now down to 6mg and doing very well. If you kept a chew in your mouth most of the day, like I did, it will take some time. You will be vaping constantly at first, but over time you will be surprised how much easier it will get to go longer without a vape. These are just my experiences, good luck, and don't be afraid to PM me with any questions about my process.

STUMP

You all are great! Thank you for the quick responses. I am currently an over a can a day user, and I do believe I am poisoning my self some days. I very rarely go without a chew in my mouth, and I am not only sick and tired of the cravings, but of the cost of the habit too. I did smoke analogs for a few years when I was younger (18,19,20) but used the smokeless to wean myself off of them. The last e-cig I used was a "cigalike" and although I did enjoy using it, it just didn't satisfy my cravings. I have also tried the gum, which was absolutely pointless.

I'm not so concerned about up-front cost, as I am about purchasing another one of these with no results.

Thank you for all of your support.

Check out Snus, the Swedish brands not the americian ones.

I second this...if you weren't a smoker vaping will take some getting used to. It might feel like you're getting into a whole new "addiction" as opposed to a safer alternative to what you're already using. Not that I think there's anything wrong with vaping (duh!), but I think you'd have an easier transition to harm reduction doing something you're more used to.

I have a problem with needing more than just nicotine sometimes, so I use General brand Swedish Snus with no guilt whatsoever. I never thought I would be a dipper (a girl like me? NO way!) but it really does tamp down the cravings for me without getting me jittery like nic does.

Here is some good info on how Swedish Snus doesn't promote any cancers over decades of study:

http://www.estoc.org/uploads/Documents/documents/Snus--Summary_of_Fact_Sheets-Nov2008.pdf

But of course, if you would like to pick up vaping, it's an extremely fun and relaxing hobby, and this is a fantastic, friendly, and helpful community! :D

Ok,
So here's what's on my shopping list at myvaporstore.com, please help if I'm missing anything:

2 - Joye ego 650mAh Batteries
2 - Vision ego clearomizers
1- Wall Charger
1 - USB Charger
3 - 10ml Bottles of Fluid (24mg Menthol, Kamol, and American 55 - I still like the taste of cigarettes)

Am I missing anything, or does anyone suggest anything different?

Thanks again

Alisa,
Didn't catch your post until I was done writing mine. I may try the swedish snus too, but my ultimate goal is to quit nicotine altogether, and I feel like a complete change in delivery might help to break my habits. I've tried the camel snus, and it just didn't do it for me.

Did you ever smoke analogs? I ask because, I guess you do know with vaping, like smoking, you will need to inhale the vapor(the deeper the better) to get your hit of nic.
This is misinformation. The nicotine in vapor is absorbed in the linings of the mouth, the back of the throat, and nose. Very little is absorbed in the lungs if any. It's not even necessary to inhale in the lungs at all.

The correct technique for vaping is via a mouth inhale. Long slow pulls into the mouth and hold it there momentarily. You may either inhale into the lungs to simulate smoking, or just exhale through you mouth and nose.

Hey USCoastie,

I understand your logic. You might find that the 650 Ego doesn't have enough "punch" after a while. How much is the setup you're getting going to cost? The reason I ask is that they have a really awesome ego twist/spinner package for about $70 that give you 2 variable voltage batteries of whatever size you want, 2 clearos of your choice, and the charger (doesn't include juice). For what you get it's a great price, and it gives you the opportunity to try two different brands and/or sizes of batteries and two types of tank setups. Some people like top coil (like iClears) and some like the bottom coil (like the evods and protanks).

Not to say that you're missing anything or getting a bad setup, but with this one you'll be less likely to need an upgrade soon. (Believe me, everyone upgrades!)

I was a can plus a day user and vaping has so far been the best replacement for me. I tried snus, patches, gums, and lozenges. Vaping (along with the novelty of it for a dipper like me) and the fact that I like the limitless options and gear buying has scratched all the itches so far.

I walked into a vape store and overpaid for a vision spinner, evod, charger, and some 24mg juice. I quickly upped to 36mg and that lasted for two weeks or so until I was comfortable on 24mg. Now just 7 weeks later I'm less than 24mg most of the time. Also in this short time I have acquired more than half a dozen devices - mechanical mods, iTaste SVD, spare ego spinners, etc. along with every kind of tank and clearo that goes with them.

Stay with it, for me it has been a huge improvement in my life. I think I can finally face my dentist again here in a couple months.

If you're shopping at myvaporstore, are you looking at this kit?

http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

I would probably get one top coil clearo (iclear 16) and one bottom coil (EVOD or t3) just to see which you like better. I'd also recommend higher mAh batteries - get one Spinner and one twist. Personally, I'm partial to the Vision Spinners, as there voltage markings are much better.

Another suggestion for a very nice kit is this one from Vape Dojo - it'll be back in stock next week. It has two mini protank clearos, which are pyrex tanks. I also like the looks of the EVOD batteries better than either the spinners or the twists.

What I had chosen is the same package, I just wasn't sure where to start (There are way more options than I expected). My last set-up I bought from a local cig store, no wonder I wasn't happy with it.

I had originally chose the 650mAh joye, would I be better off with the Spinner 1300 mAh?

There are a TON of cartomizer options too, what do you suggest?

What about fluids? Ton of options there too!

Thanks again

Again, slow typer, missed your post. It's starting to make more sense.

I agree with cramptholomew's suggestions--get one spinner, one twist. For mAh size, a general rule of thumb is 100 mAh lasts about 1 hour of average vape time. They do get a little longer the higher up you go--I have a 1300 mAh spinner and it easily lasts me one full weekend day of vaping, and with my Evod clearos it's about 8" long. It will usually a day and a half on workdays (I don't vape at my desk). If I were to get the kit I would get one smaller (maybe a 650) for the work week and as a backup, and the 1300 for weekends.

One top coil and one bottom coil clearomizer would be good. The ego or iclear would be nice, and Evods are very popular. The Protanks get a lot of rave reviews--I got one for the pyrex glass but I don't really like the metal drip tip and it's fussy (gurgles a lot) so I don't use it much.

Juices are too personal for me to recommend. It may take a little while for you to find out what you prefer. I would get one fruit, one tobacco, and one dessert type so you have an idea of what each has to offer.
