If the rate of spread starts to increase outside of China (which I personally expect it will)

Actually, China is doing pretty good job on holding the virus inside the country right now, I don't think there are good chances for the outside of China virus spread growth.

They seem to be taking it seriously, at least after their initial reaction of covering it up and pretending it wasn't happening. Old habits die hard I guess. According to some experts they might have missed a chance to shut it down early on. Now it's going to be harder but still doable. They made a public statement calling for loyalty to the Party and invoking the name of the Great Leader as personally heading up the response, which apparently means that everyone has to be on board.

Saw a news segment showing a reporter who had ordered take away food. A guy showed up on a bicycle with his food, and presented a piece of paper showing the temperature of the cook, the packer, and the delivery driver. You have to feel for them. I hope it doesn't get to that over here.

that's cool, I know a few institutions in the UK I wish they'd have to present the evidence of the freshly taken temperature* of all the bureaucrats involved every time I'm requesting something from them.

Even if China gets “hold of” (good luck to them with something that appears to spread by a variety of means, just like a common cold) but it problems already elsewhere. There was a British guy who was a conference in Singapore, picked it up somewhere there, flew to a French ski resort and infected some people there.

there’s the outbreak now tied to a mall in another Chinese city which sees foot traffic of about 12,000 people a day from which about 200 cases have been tracked.[/s][/S]

Error in my part. That case was a US citizen evacuated and being held on an AFB near San Diego in quarantine who was taken to a hospital, tested negative, returned to quarantine, remained ill, and on retesting was positive. No idea what that means for all the others in quarantine when he was sent back in before removal the second time.

Then there’s a woman who was infected in Hong Kong apparently by air flowing from a broken pipe or something by a neighbor in an apartment 5 stories above her.

The real disturbing case was a guy in that cruise ship being held in Yokohama in a a two week quarantine of 3,700 people with about 200 ill so far. He’s scary because he had cold like symptoms, was taken to a hospital, tested negative, sent back to the ship and when he got worse was retested and found positive.

Those aren’t meant to be scare stories, but examples of one, how easy it is to spread this thing around, two, how easy it is to jump borders, and three, how much more needs to be learned about this virus. And how to test early, asymptomatic people who may have been exposed but aren’t sick yet are capable of spreading the illness.

Three are a lot of uncertainties here, and none of them break in a good direction.

With most French ladies (I lived there in middle school) all you are going to catch will be a tolerance for hair armpits and I SO agree on that, it's not a DEALBREAKER until you can braid it as far as I'm concerned, a penchant for fine cooking, and the occasional tongue lashing,

I am officially kind of hoping to catch this sucker, if only to find out for once and all what happened to the Luck I so Consistently Counted on.

I was doing great in that department . Now, I know how my son feels when he says mournfully, "I don't think I have the best luck."

I used to be all like "Kid you drove on 19 hits of acid and lived to tell about it. You are plenty lucky even if that did not happen, you could like, be you know a serf."

Now I know how he feels. Perhaps the dang house is teaching me life lessons but I feel unlucky because a) I don't have more precios yet, (Yeah yeah I know I have one, shut up."

But, I could be the inheritor of a huge estate, but I'm not .I could have grown up with a butler, but I didn't.

It's the husband he won't stop updating me and then I get MAD and want to do nasty things to every State Farm person who like, um, yeah.

He's also being insane. He has talked about like setting up one of the sheds to be his "home away from home' to oversee the contractors as they finish the house.

I think he has a cunning , fiendish plan to like ,get all the demo and some stuff done and then scare the State Farm lady into like, giving us a full cash payout and using it all to fix the house. Potentially .I believe it to be insane, but what can you do,

Heard from the vendor for the custom-made item my business buys from China yesterday. We were placing an order for July delivery. Their response:

"We have resumed work from today. We also believe that this battle will soon pass.
We are very grateful for your careful consideration and release order in advance.
The spec is same [redacted] and the price is keep the same [redacted]. Thank you.

On the other hand, fasttech just moved their shipping up another week:

"However as we returned to work, local authorities laid down a number of new, previously unannounced rules to deliberately slow businesses from resuming work.
Customer service is currently available with limited capacity as we continue to work from home.
Shipping is now expected to resume normal service on February 17, 2020. We are working hard on this and we apologize for the wait."

I don't think anyone knows what it is truly like over there, it could be like the "Bring out your dead" skit in Monty Python.

IDK China just like... t seems they like things private, like. Also, the "temperature last checked" delivery guy kinda means nothing isn't there an incubation period? I hope things get better soon and of all countries (in some ways) to enforce a quarantine well I sort of trust China... EXCEPT they send us most of our stuff. That would be a problem.

Oh hell IDK. I am reminding me I have first world, rural problems, for now. Still adjusting to rural life. You can't trust it.

safe distance from a black hole
Im back home after traveling through 8 international airports.
Vaping saved me. I just sucked down big gobs of vapourised VG and PG at every available opportunity. (j/k)
Seems like now would be the best time to smuggle through some illegal contraband, theyre so busy being focused on people who have come from or traveled to mainland China theyre just flagging everyone else through with out much screening. (also j/k)

You just know they'll make a movie about this whole deal. Tom Cruise will play the Chinese doctor that discovered the virus and Sandra Bullock will play his Chinese love interest.

Nah, Dr.. Li, who spread word of it was only 34, and died from it despite being young, although I think they cleaned up his arrest record for spreading "unfounded rumors and dangerous gossip", and Tom would never play a guy who dies in a movie.

Besides, even with "de-aging" video software I'm not sure he could pull off a 34 year old ever again. And Sandra Bullock isn't even Asian, making her unlikely for a Chinese love interest. Then again, Tom isn't Asian either.

I'd just stick with Soderbergh's movie "Contagion" Granted it's an older movie (2010?), but remarkably on point for the current outbreak.

Then there was that movie with Dustin Hoffman and Rene Russo, "Outbreak", which although that was Ebola, it did include the secret military attempt to incinerate an entire town, which of course Dustin prevented.

    .

You obviously have not watched The Irishman and seen Robert De Niro's character. :):) He's Italian, Irish, Dutch, French, and German but labeled The Irishman.o_O The movie goes back in time to De Niro's character's younger days, however it really looks like De Niro tangled with a Mary Kay representative and lost.

Tom died in The Last Samurai.
