If I'm not mistaken even the CDC states the general public is at a low risk to catch Coronavirus... Unless you are at a higher risk job/situation like a healthcare professional or something obvious like working/association with people in beijing, China.
Maybe it's me but I've always felt like the news constantly propagates fear and misrepresents the facts for as long as I can remember.
I mean the TV isn't calling the Flu an epidemic even though the risk for death and contamination are very similar:
Flu = 2.1%
Coronavirus = 2.3% (death risk of those infected)
The corona virus has less than 5000 deaths worldwide (unsure of the official count right now) while the flu kills 291,000-646,000 people per year worldwide (according to the CDC) so it doesn't make sense to call one an epidemic but not the other. Same goes for Ciggerette(500,000 per year USA) deaths compared to vaping(50 in 10 years USA)
