That's what we're going to do next. For now we had a pigtail added to our furnace when we replaced the central air, a quick cheap way to keep the furnace running in an outage. That and a Rube Goldberg web of extension cords and surge strips is enough for now to power everything important.We have a large portable generator, almost whole house size. We had an electrician install an outlet on an outside wall that brings power from the generator into the house during outages. There's a transfer switch in our breaker box to switch to the generated power. We can run the furnace, fridge, well, lights and the freezers. Not as easy as a whole house set up, but it works.
