here's a source for rayon...

- Sites-SA-Site

WARNING: This one is NOT Rayon!!!! (Look carefully at the label, it says 100% Cotton). Sally Beauty sells the shorter lengths ONLY in cotton, they carry the Rayon in 500-ft and 3 LB sizes.

I'm curious to try this out when I learn how to wick. Keeping in mind, CelluCotton is a brand. I believe there are two kinds: 100% rayon, and 50/50 cotton/rayon. Anyone have any experience in how they wick differently?

Not quite, it is either 100% cotton or 100% rayon. And the packaging looks IDENTICAL except for that one word.....

With such small amounts of cotton being used in any build I think any contaminate
would be minuscule to non-existent. I'd probably get more "contaminates" in my
lungs by walking behind a running vehicle.

I don't bother going to the trouble of boiling. Each to there own.

I wondered this also, hitmetwice. I mean, we *are* inhaling chemicals here.

^that sounds like the process for making PAPER

like they say : "If you had a analysis of your TAP WATER, you wouldn't drink it"

yepper ! the first link: on the left choose Select Length - 10' or 500'

now it says 100% rayon ???

10' cotton
500' rayon

I don't know anything about cotton or rayon. But I own a moose processing shop and have worked as a commercial fisherman. Net twine and butcher twine are both 100% cotton--but completely different in texture and strength and diameter. Has something to do with how it is spun into the final product.

There's a joke in here somewhere about smoking moose meat, but I'm going to let it go.

what I like about butcher twine is it is designed for food

where the cottons and rayons are not intended as such...

will have to get & try some butcher twine here sometime soon.... (procrastination)

I love my cotton yarn with the consistency, butcher twine I'm guessin about the same

:)

If it's cellulose (and/paper), what do you think from a safety perspective? We burn paper in cigarettes don't we? Serious question. ..I honestly have no idea.

I ALSO have no idea. So, it's a cellulose/viscose, which to make it simple....it's coming from a plant. Tree, fiber, etc. I'm too new at this to have any solid answers, but I do feel as if we're falling down the rabbit hole a bit. Is rayon safer? Is silica safer? Is cotton safer? Here's my only opinion: If you find something that works for you, that you enjoy, and is as safe as you can get or as safe as you are willing to go, I think you should just take a step back and say, "Hey, look. I'm not smoking analogs, and this wick works great!" That being said, as I continue to experiment with spinning my own wicks from 'natural' fibers and testing them out on unwilling participants who know more about wicking than I do, I will post my results.
