I'm pretty sure he didn't fill them with liquid or have to charge them either.

For me, organic 100% natural cotton doesn't need to be boiled, but my evidence is anecdotal.

It's a preference thing. Do it if you want but there is no real science or research behind if you should or not.

I agree people should do what makes themselves happy. The science hasn't caught up. I like my Japanese Organic Cotton, and if I get a dry hit I would rather it be that cotton. It really becomes a gut level thing for people on what they are comfortable with, or performance preferences.

I did get some Japanese Organic cotton. I didn't want to pay a premium for kogendoh or whatever, so I got the kind suggested by "the armed vaper". Love his vids.

I got it after watching Phil's wicking test video. Is it just me, or does the whole vaping thing bring out the geek in other people too? I enjoyed watching the full video, which amounted to mostly watching wick material in a liquid. Fascinating.

Yup :) Next week we'll watch Phil paint his house. He'll have a bar chart on the drying times so Ill probably watch the whole thing too and enter the paintbrush give-away!

Here is the deal on boiling cotton balls plain and simple. When a manufacturer refers to its product as Organic he or she is referring to just the growing process. In order to be considered organic you cant use man made chemical compositions for fertilizer and pesticides. However you can use natural pesticides and fertilizers. By the way the number one natural based pesticide is Nicotine. Talk about Ironic!! Anyways there are also a ton of other not so great for inhaling pesticides and such that Organic based farmers can use. That being said Boil Your Cotton or whatever else you are going to use as a wicking material. Also wash new devices and if you are using premade coils I generally rinse those as well but that's just me. Ok all of that said if you don't think you are accomplishing anything by boiling and rinsing your Cotton in "distilled water" then simply take a sniff of the water that you are boiling in when you begin and again at the end of the 3 to 5 boiling cycle that I recommend to my customers. You will quickly understand all of the stuff that you are removing. The smell is that of a hospital room after a team of janitorial staff finishes their chemical wash down. It is just plain horrid. When you b oil remember the less contact you have with the cotton the better shape it will be in at the end. Be gental and you should end up with a very good product by the end of the cycle. God Bless And Good Luck

I've heard (read) about some vape shops selling pre-boiled cotton, but it's not cheap (compared to buying a bag and boiling it yourself).

What plant uses the most pesticides to grow and harvest and chemicals to process?

How many guesses do I get, and is the end product a white, fluffy fiber? :p

Didn't read the whole thread, but I'll tell ya what I plan on doing tomorrow:

I bought this exact bag: Amazon.com : Maxim Hygiene Products Organic Cotton Balls -- 100 Cotton Balls : Beauty

Bought some distilled water from the grocery store. Threw in half the bag of cotton balls, brought to a boil, boiled for 15 minutes, then let simmer. Took each cotton ball out and put into a bowl. After every one was out, I put another bowl of the same exact kind on top of the other containing the cotton balls, and squeezed the living he!! out of them. This got nearly all of the water out of them.

I unfluffed the wringed cotton balls to my best ability, and then put them in the microwave on a plate. Toasted them for 5 minutes. When they came out, they were perfectly fluffy. Half a bag lasted me 6 months, so I'm about to do the other half tomorrow for more ammo.

Oh, and the reason I boil the already organic cotton is to boil out the hydrogen peroxide. Using distilled water from steam eliminates any hard mineral worries. Some people don't boil them, but I prefer the taste and safety.

Holy sounds-like-a-lot-of-work, Batman! Just get some koh-gen-doh or muji, or any of the others and be done with it. :)

Not really a lot of work; just an in depth explanation for anyone wondering what a thorough method sounds like. Cotton ball bag $3. Distilled water gallon $0.79. Half a bag lasted me half a year, and I switch out cotton almost every day due to constant flavor changes in my drippers.

The results are fantastic, and much better than spending $10 on merely 20 "pads" of japanese cotton for a 1 month supply. Frugality is best exercised always.

I spent $8 on 60 - 4 ply pads. Roughly 8 - 10 wicks per ply, so 32 - 40 wicks per pad times 60 pads is about 1920 - 2400 wicks per pack..... That do not require boiling. Just saying... If you do the math, I think that is the absolute definition of frugality. I bought mine on amazon before the big rush to get them.

I only hydrogen peroxide if of concern to you, you may safely stop your boiling exercise. There is no HP in cotton. HP is highly unstable and degrades rapidly (producing water). O, and some people drink it (health nuts?)

I just recently saw a discussion about this on Facebook. Most people in the Ohio Vaper group are saying that they buy the natural organic cotton in the green bag from CVS and they do NOT boil the cotton.

How am I not a part of this group? Nobody ever tells me anything! Lol.
