Man, I'll just give up on re-wicking, it's not worth it! I tried another 4 times this evening. I went from having a very thin wick that fits easily through the coil to having a thick one that barely fits and everytime the same thing: after 4 of 5 draws I start having this crazy nasty taste, probably burning cotton.

The first 10-15 minutes with a fresh cotton wick I always taste the cotton quite a bit, it's not that pleasant but it goes away. Make sure to always wet the wick a lot at first, it needs it, of course don't flood your atomizer.

I would also add that a cotton wick is not for everyone's taste, personally I like it a lot because there's such a huge throat hit with it.

Cotton also expands a fair bit once It's had juice in it for a time, that being said I've never had an issue with cotton at first, only after a day or two when I usually replace it

I just rip a randomly guessed amount off a cotton ball, roll it loosely and try and shove it in my coil, if it doesn't slide right in I take it out and take a tiny amount off or roll it tighter, seems to work great, and since I boiled it I only get that 'cotton taste' for maybe a puff or two if at all (maybe I'm just used to it and don't notice it)

I don't/never have used an evod though so it's hard to tell exactly what you're doing wrong without actually seeing you do it

another thought is that it could be the coil, or not enough juice in the cotton, it has to be saturated all nice and goodlike (I normally use like 10-15 drops to prime mine probably more)

OK, so tonight, I decided to try to put a cotton wick on an old Vivi nova head that I had. To my surprise, this one seems to be working pretty good.
Do I tried once again the Evod. I think I discovered what my problem was. The problem is not the wick that goes through the coil but the flavor wick on top! It seems that this one was too much. This time, I only put just one very thin flavor wick. I no longer get the nasty cotton taste but my Evod gurgles and I get some juice in my mouth. Also, the flavor seem to not be all there.
I guess I need to keep on trying.

Quick question: the stock silica that came with all my heads used to last me about a couple of weeks. How often do the cotton wicks need to be replaced?

I swap mine every day or 3 depending on how lazy I am, I use really dark juices

With lighter juices you'll probably be able to get away with a bit longer but yeah less than a week

A good rule is once it starts tasting off it's probably time to change wicks
