Yarn ... Easier to install and lasts longer than cotton balls. I don't boil yarn either.

Wicks just as good as cotton balls.

Hey .. Focus that camera! . . . .

Ok .. It's in focus now
How come your coil looks so crusty? . . . Because it's been in there for 2 weeks, and I'm too lazy to change it
Is that rust I see on your coil? . . . . . . r Might be ... I need a little iron in my diet anyway

Thanks for the pics. I wouldn't have thought of that.

I use cotton balls because that's what I have. Just got some .6 and 2mm silica and will get some yarn later. Try it all and see what I like. It is cheap enough. I make a coil for about .15 cents without buying in bulk so I can waste a lot before I equal a coil replacement price.

Shouldn't do that ... What brand of cotton yarn are you using?

Peaches and cream ecru from Walmart. Once it does wick, it continues to wick, but first wetting is tough compared to cotton balls. I've tried boiling repeatedly in distiller water and using it raw dog with the same results. I would appreciate any helpful feedback on getting it to perform better as it's so much easier to just thread in a string through my micro coil.

I first tried the cotton balls. Couldn't get the hang of how much cotton to use. Then I decided on the Peaches and Cream Yarn from Walmart. It was $1.50 for a small ream of yarn....will last quite a long time. I do cut a few strands and boil it, then let it dry.

I now rebuild my Protank 2's and Aspire Nautilus' coils out of yarn. There's no more guesswork. I just build the coil and thread the yarn thru it....works perfect.

I use the cotton yarn for consistency. The strand fits perfectly in a coil built on a 4-40 machine screw. Don't use a flavor wick. No leaks, no gurgles. When I tried cotton balls sometimes I would use too much/too little and even with practice I couldn't get the consistency with a cotton ball. Same reason that I use a 4-40 screw as a coiling guide.

There's the problem .... You need Lily "Sugar n Cream" cotton yarn

Get it from Michaels ... 2 bucks

Do you boil this before using? Does it stay together?
I'm currently using organic cotton balls...but this looks a lot more convenient, getting the right amount to use and everything.
