Hi all,

I have been re-wicking my novas using silica wick for quite a while now,and after recently making a new one;decided to add a couple of strands of cotton to the silica wick.

Just plain old cotton, that we all have lying around our homes.

This seems to give a much better smoother vape, and my question to you all is this...

what are the wicks like, if just using cotton alone ?

I am sure some of you will have tried this method, and i am interested to know your experience.

Thanks in advance...Terry Reason for edit is i meant to say string not cotton

Hmm Ive had the opposite results. I`ve been re-coiling and re-wicking my Evods for two weeks now, basically trying to hit the sweet spot and I`m just about there (for me anyway).
I started off using a #4 unc thread to wrap the wire around but found the coil diameter too thick so now I use a 2mm cocktail stick to do 6 turns of Kanthal A1 31awg (0.23mm) giving me 1.8ohm. The wire stays around the cocktail stick as it`s slotted into the atomiser head and the "legs" pulled down tight, grommet and pin inserted and the legs snipped. The cocktail stick is then wound out leaving the coil in perfect position.
Resistance checked and a dry burn then 15 strands of cheese cloth cotton doubled over to give 30 strands is pulled throught the coil using a single strand of cotton as a threader. Drop of E-juice on the coil then a further 20 strands are layed on top as the flavour wick.
Ends snipped using nail clippers.
I`ve tested this against the factory std 1.8 Evod head that uses silica wick and for me it works much much better :)
I vape mainly tobacco flavours on a basic Ego-c at 3.3v (or whatever the ego`s deem to put out) and have had no bad results or muted flavours, in fact it brings out flavour, vapour and TH in my experience.
When to wick gets messy simply (carefully) pull it out (after a quick rinse), dry burn to clean the coil and thread a new one through.

One note of caution though, you can`t dry burn with the wick in place or you will scorch the cotton and it`s best to leave the clearo to soak for a while after a re-fill to saturate the new wick before firing up.
