Maybe someone can help me here, I tried to put cotton wicks in my vivi nova but it caused a weird aftertaste - I boiled 100% pure cotton ($5 for a roll at rite aid) for 15 min, let it dry overnight, cut it into strips, rolled it up after wetting it a little w/ distilled water and fed it through the coil...tasted funny - did I do something wrong??

The taste will go away after time. If you want, next time you're out pick up some 2mm braided cotton candle wick, boil it twice, and let it dry. I don't know if you use rba's but that stuff works great. I also roll it in slightly oxidized SS mesh for my Z-Atty. It's quite amazing.

Where does one pick up braided cotton candle wick? Amazon.com or a hobby store of some kind? It seems like it would be easier to work with compared to the cotton ball method.

You can pick up 100% cotton yard or crochet thread at Walmart. Cheap and works great.
Also, allow the cotton to wick the juice for an hour, or so, before you start to vape it.
It might taste a little off for the first few vapes, but will taste awesome shortly after those first few vapes.

Remember: you don't want anything with a core in it. Some candle wick material has a core, so does most twine. No core, please because it will not wick well and won't taste good either.

Hope this helps a little.

I got mine at a craft and hobby store. It's called Michael's here in Ohio. And let me tell you, that was some embarrassing [edit] being in that place.

I guess you could always get some with core
and
some without core.

Try them both and decide with is best you. I know many people who use cotton for wicks and none of them like, or use, cotton products with a core.

Taste is subjective. Guess that is why so many of us work so hard to find the options available to us.
