Good question and hope we get a answer, using the cotton Butchers Twine would be easier for me rather than SS and I'm not personally
a fan of silica.

I'm not a fan of ss or silica. I'm waiting on some hemp twine and some 30 gauge kanthal to try on my igo-l. I should get it tomorrow. I definitely want to try cotton though. I just want to know how well it stands up to heat. I got the hemp because I heard its very heat resistant, and I want to try out low res coils.

Does anybody know if I can use cotton wick and low resistance in combination or do I need to use silica for that?

Yes you can I am running a 1ohm coil on an Era with 100% cotton food grade Butchers twine. Biggest thing is to give your wick plenty of time on the initial soak it takes a bit of time.
