Cotton??

I admit, I learned to build coils with silica and for a while I was a silica fanboy. But just today I built my first cotton wick using some 100% cotton yarn from Michaels which cost me WAY less than silica (which earned it more points by me).

I admit that the flavor is much more potent and the vapor productin from such a sub-par tank became superb! My slight downside is I can still taste the slightest hint of burning, barely noticeable but still there. Is this normal? Did I prime it improperly? Or should I have not added abit extra for a flavor wick?

I'm using both an eGo-C Twist and a similarly styled battery from a local vape shop (I use both regularly), on a Kanger Mini Protank II

Next time you wick it, before you are done, drip the juice right on to the wick and coil so it's wet, not soaks. Protanks take a bit to wick. Also, if this is the first time you've used cotton, you may have used too much. Cotton will swell much more dramatically than silica which can cause it to choke and not wick as well.

make sure the cotton is not getting forced into the coil... too much will prevent proper wicking and not allow enough juice to the coil which will give you the burn taste

IDK if anyone else has tried this (Pure Cotton - Koh Gen Do | Sephora _P300602_image), but I've rebuild my Kayfun's and Protanks with it a bunch and haven't had any issues. I know it's a bit more than cotton balls, but it's supposed to be not only organic but 100% pesticide free. There's 60 squares in a box, I haven't even gone through 1 full square yet and it's been 2 months.

+ 1 on the Koh Gen Do and Rayon. I use KGD in two setups and it is much better than any other cotton I've used.

I run rayon in one of my setups and it is equal to the KGD in all aspects except I find the KGD to be a little easier to make and duplicate the perfect wick.

I tried Rayon for an entire day and had to pull it. It wasn't for me. It just didn't hold its physical consistancy as well as cotton; it just collapsed into a lump of mush and was very brittle to work with. Maybe I was given a bad batch? It was given to me free to trial.

I've had the best luck with organic cotton balls. (Non-organic cotton could have bleach or hydrogen pyroxide in it.)

Crazymew, I typically don't use flavor wicks when I run cotton through my coils. Haven't found a need. What gauge wire and how big a wrap? When I thread the cotton, I make sure that I can slide it through with just the slightest resistance. Then trim the edges to the sides of the pt head and fluff a bit to "fill" the space.

I use 32 gauge kanthal for my rebuilding. I'm thinking of trying to wrap the kanthal around a screw like I've seen in some videos to give the coil that consistent appearance. I'm thinking it'd be easier to thread cotton through too.

Yep, you should definitely wrap around something! Are you making a micro coil (where each wrap touches the ones next to it) or a standard coil like you would have with silica? I think that most people would agree that a micro coil is easier to wrap, easier to wick, and heats up more evenly. Just some thoughts. I don't have any tricks for PT heads specifically.

Question for those of you who have been using cotton for awhile: when do you find it necessary to change out the cotton wick? Ive had mine in for about 6 days now and it isn't hitting quite as good. Just wondering if they usually need replacement this quickly? Probably should mention that I am using it in a Quasar dripper. Im sure the time will alter between types of use.

I can't respond to this as I haven't ventured into dripping land. Yet. I can however, say that on my Kayfuns I get about 2 tanks before needing to re-wick with cotton.

I'm using organic cotton in both a KFL+ and Patriot dripper. Depending upon the flavor, it lasts 2 - 5 days; 3 - 4 days on average. Like most wick material, darker flavors and sweeter flavors tend to need for the cotton to be replaced sooner. I dry burn the coil in between wick changes.

I'm a cotton newbie, I'm using 100%VG Juice and the organic flavorings are all on the very lite side.

Based on forum recommendations I'm using the Organic Cotton Balls found at Walgreens. [Studio 35 Beauty] they are fine. The are whitened with peroxide but peroxide isn't a chemical that scares me. It's chemical make up is H202 so it has one more extra oxygen molecule then water. I could be wrong but extra oxygen just doesn't get me nervous. In addition it's found organically in many organisms.

I think that it's going to be dependent on how careful you are to always keep the cotton saturated. I think even just one dry hit will burn the cotton and affect the taste. Also the purity of the juice.

Since I'm on a REO and making sure to always keep it very saturated and my liquid has few impurities,
I'm going on it 5-7 days which is longer then most. My setup is unusual because I'm using Vaping Donuts instead of Kanthal.

Jake, tbh I don't know how to make a microcoil, and after just now trying to make the coil on a screw I got a horrible burnt taste, even after dripping onto the wick when i started. So I made a new coil using my old method, which is using a thin paperclip to keep it steady as I wrap the wick with kanthal. This time I used a thicker paperclip to give the coil more room for the cotton. The taste has definitely improved after letting it sit for awhile and I didn't add a flavor wick this time.

And now I come to the realization that my lemonade flavor doesn't taste like lemonade... It's too sweet, :l

I only use cotton now. I've tried some other stuff, but I know how to wick my kayfun with cotton. I change it every 2 tanks, and the coil every 6-8 tanks. The coil could last longer, but kanthol is cheap.
