Most 100% cotton thread is treated with chemicals, usually sodium hydroxide. As I understand it, it helps the strands lie flat and gives it a sheen. I do not not know if it's in yarn or if it is, if it's safe to vape. It's came up with the quilter group a few times - wondering if our 100% cotton thread and fabric is really just cotton or other stuff and that's when we learned of the chemical treatment of thread.

+ 1 on the Koh Gen Do and Rayon. I use KGD in two setups and it is much better than any other cotton I've used.

I run rayon in one of my setups and it is equal to the KGD in all aspects except I find the KGD to be a little easier to make and duplicate the perfect wick.
Gosh darned you Super_X_Drifter, after you gave the thumbs up to Rayon, I had to give it a try. Even though vaping on a synthetic fiber not designed for vaping raises the hairs on the back of my head.

Turns out the Celucotton [sold at Sally's] blew cotton away. Better Wicking, Flavor, even better nic.

I gave my cotton to my 12 year old for makeup removal. Sigh...

R u saying to change the cotton inside the coil as well as flavour wick? Cause on my evods I can't change cotton inside coil without taking coil out and then the legs will be to short to reassemble coil in evod head

Then you're doing it wrong somehow. You should be able to pull out the cotton and replace it, but you'll need to remove the top stem first ofcourse.

I just drag the old cotton out and pull a new wick in, prime it and it's ready to go.
You don't need to remove the coil itself.

@tomzgreat and other folks.. Synthetic probably is accurate for describing rayon, however it is all pure cellulose and the end product is apparently quite clean. Check out the huge thread on it for real details about it. I switched to rayon about 3 days ago and I love it so far. I'll stick with it until I find a reason not too :)

I've been using cotton for months now, with all my Kayfun style tanks. I basically get a week of vaping per wick with my light (basically colourless) 12mg juice. I go weeks on a coil, before I install the new wick I just fire it up and stick the coil under a stream of water while it's still glowing and blow off any of the remaining crusties.

The tax farm known as USA.
Based on forum recommendations I'm using the Organic Cotton Balls found at Walgreens. [Studio 35 Beauty] they are fine. The are whitened with peroxide but peroxide isn't a chemical that scares me. It's chemical make up is H202 so it has one more extra oxygen molecule then water. I could be wrong but extra oxygen just doesn't get me nervous. In addition it's found organically in many organisms.

hydrogen peroxide beaks down in light (into water and oxygen), these are not the droids you're looking for, move along

rayon, its the part of cotton that we want without the stuff we don't and in a form where the strands are longer and aligned better, its cotton +1.

Isn't your coil in the evod lower then the cutouts in the head? Cutouts meaning where the flavour wick sits. Being the coil is lower, how do u get a new wick in? The head is in the way.

With all respect.
I have an open mind. But unless we've contacted the manufacturer [And Trust Them], or done Laboratory tests. We simply don't know what or if the Celucotton has been treated with anything to make it flame ......ent, or Anti bacterial.

I've read the other thread, if you could direct me to where someone has sent the Celucotton to a lab for testing, or contacted the manufacturer to find out if it's been treated with any chemicals. I must have missed it among the 3000 plus posts.

My opinion is that we are somewhat in the dark on Celucotton.

I admit, I've not read the whole post, but rather just the OP's question and now rushed to answer. Why you ask? Because I'm in the act now! I know I'll get flamed for this, but F any framers! Boil that sh-tuff! Why? Is it because of toxins? No! Is it because of residues? No! Is it because it makes the cotton sterile? No! It's because it eliminates any funky tastes!!! I use "organic sterile" cotton balls to make my wicks, but the only ones in shop nearby are all whitened with peroxide. Does that fact bother me? No! It's the fact that there's always a funny taste unless I boil it! I use GreatValue Distilled water ($0.88/gal). I add the cotton to the water then apply heat (very important to add cotton before heat to distilled! Don't believe me, YouTube Mythbusters distilled water). Bring to a boil, then let boil for 15 min. Rinse for 5 min then repeat. Final rinse with 1 gal of distilled water. Never a funny taste, never a burnt taste (assuming you wet the wick thoroughly before vaping). People wanna hate on boiling, but that's the only way I get a clean flavor from my juice. Just my opinion, ymmv...

I like your post and find it interesting. As for my own opinion i've never gotten any funky taste of the cotton unboiled.
Maybe it depends on where you get the cotton? Well i don't know.
Boil or not it's a personal opinion afterall. :)

Thanks SleeZy lol... I was on JuiceJunkies on FB for a while, and if you even mentioned the "B" word it was an instant flame fest. My only point is that, sometimes, there is a reason to boil. If you try cotton, and it's ....ty, try boiling before you give up.

Taste and smell are very subjective. Just because you don't taste it doesn't mean that it's not there.
See perfect example below

Asparagus
Complete article on Web Md
Why Your Pee Smells Funny After Eating Asparagus

Excerpts for Brevity:
"Researchers believe that, during digestion, the vegetable's sulfurous amino acids break down into smelly chemical components in all people."
...
"But only about one-quarter of the population appears to have the special gene that allows them to smell those compounds. So the issue isn't whether or not your pee is smelly; it's whether you're able to smell it"

Kinda Scary when you apply this principle to vaping wicking material.

Yea i agree! If the cotton is bad/funky, atleast try to boil it before giving it up. :) :thumb:

100% cotton old underwear for the win. Flavor a little bit funky but wears off after a few vapes. Just kidding... I use organic cotton on just about everything I rebuild but keep a supply of silica on hand for friends who end up running their cotton wicks dry and burning them. Keeps me from having to re-wick for them constantly.

Like my wife lol she will burn that cotton 90% of the time me very seldom.
I too am a cotton boiler and twister. I in fact boil it twice and a dry in between. But I rewick every fill after rinsing I am a taste freak and want my juice fresh tasting all the time but to each his/her own. I am one of those that tastes and smells good so I want my apple pie to taste fresh every tank lol. Only takes about a minute to rinse, dry burn, and new twist of cotton so I do it. Gotta love a huge lung hit of burned cotton ya know I am a lung hitter no whimpy hits for me I wanta blow vapor out my nose 10 times as long as I inhale so I get that great taste, to me the long slow nose exhale is where the best taste is so I sometimes inhale 3 or 4 times before all the vapor is exhaled my nose works real well I can smell the cat pee in the bathroom clear in here on the couch And that silica taste kills vaping for me. I tried nylon from my wifes underwear to get that great taste 1st few hits but it melted in the coil darnit. :vapor:

peace and flame away

You don't need to remove the coil to re-wick with cotton

Stop throwing away your protank coils – ITCVapes

Works great with cotton, even better with rayon
