Coughing After Vaping

I always have water near by when I vape. I'm a chain vaper and I found the water helps. Also, change your eliquid to a different flavor. I also second getting rid of the metal drip tip. Go get yourself a nice plastic one. That helped me get rid of the metalic taste.

I'm not a doctor and this is medical in nature, I would recommend getting with your PCM and have it checked out.

I will say one of the *biggest* advancements (that is fairly small scale, on the face of it compared to other changes) is the idea of delrin/plastic drip tips. I really hated the SS ones, and in most of my mods, I will switch them out if they are SS, unless it's a really flavorful RTA with a long driptip, which I can sort of handle.

Diver9543 is correct in getting this checked out by a PCP if this continues after you make any adjustments to your vape... It could be as simple as an infection that you need treated...

Hello Guys,

I'm vaping for more than 2 months now and I enjoyed it a lot.

As a starter, I face some problems/difficulties and solve it with time and tuning the mod setting time to time. Now, having another problem, which I can't identify the reason.

After around 10 minutes of vaping I start coughing. It stops, if I drink a few sips of water, though its new to me. And, of course, it's giving me tension. What to do now?

My current e-juice spec: VG 80, PG 20, Nic 6mg
Using Vaporesso Target Pro and vaping on 27.5W (Coil .5)

Figured I get back to you on this subject.
I found drinking helped lower the coughing. BUT the fact that I observed lately is,,,,the thick VG juices I was using was in fact a cause of the hacking. for the last week I've been diluting my juice with China's 70/30 (70%PG / 30%VG) and have noticed the coughing to subside.

Higher PG juices kill my taste buds.
Go figure...
But I am an ex-smoker. Need my nicotine fix. I am still vaping.
Would never vape if I was not a smoker.

But Vaping has also turned many a Asmatic Smoker away from Constant Big Pharma pills and monthly Hospital Visits imposed by both Health Insurance as well as Co Pay visits to... NONE NO LONGER NEEDED! I'll take a Temp Cough Over Shelling Out BIG $$$ Anytime!!!

Just my experience mind you but in the past whenever I started coughing and got a metal taste I wound up with a lung infection. It may be that your equipment is fine and that you have just picked up a nasty bug someplace. It is that time of year.

Glad you approved! Upon last March when a family memeber was seriously injured and unable to drive any vehicle having seen both hands broken in a fall, one hand seeing a broken wrist being the primary right hand for the right handed person I had to cut way back on vaping but still noticed a good deal of congestion which lead back not the e-liquids or gear but the rather heavy pollen levels being seen in the local area.

I had requested a separate small bottle of menthol I could easily add to any non menthol flavors as well as boost up the level with some where menthol had initially been requested during purchases as well as seeing how it work with that particular vendor's latest additions. That vendor is also an ECF supplier for anyone curious in that regard. The menthol certainly comes in handy this year even more so then just the usual sampling and allergy control over using Big Pharma crud!

Seeing a doctor if you are worried will do you the most good. There are a kabillian things that could cause this from something coincidental to a reaction to simply your lungs clearing out. Two months is about the time frame some of the gunk from smoking starts breaking loose.

Process of elimination:
Get some pure PG and some pure VG (no nic and no flavoring in either)
Get some new coils or even better a cheap single coil dripper like maybe the IGO-L

Put some of the pure VG in a new coil and vape that for 10+ min. It may not taste good and it won't satisfy the nic craving but we are just seeing if this makes you cough at all. Then repeat with a FRESH coil and the pure PG. If one of those makes you cough and the other does not then you can get juice made with 100% of the one that doesn't make you cough. If both make you cough then you may have some infection that is causing it or you may just not be able to vape at all. If neither do then try different flavors at 0 nic, it could be specific flavors causing the issue. Finally if none of the flavors are the culprit then it's the nic. I think some sources of nic base are more harsh/peppery than others. Of course it could also just be crud cleaning out of your lungs as others have said, but these steps of isolating the ingredients and testing will help to identify what it could be.

Try a different flavor. I used a peach lemonade flavor juice that eventually made me cough and tasted metallic. I dont use that juice anymore.

Thanks for mentioning that. I just had the same experience with one of my juices tasting like metal. I had a new coil in so I dumped the juice and cleaned the tank, then filled with a new juice. Problem solved. Unfortunately, I don't remember which juice caused the problem.

Don't mind me, just following this thread...I sometimes have a coughing issue too. Right now it's due to a cold I had 2 weeks ago. I just can't seem to kick it this go round...I think it's time to call the good 'ol Doc.

Since you just joined ECF in August, I assume that you are fairly new to vaping. If so you are probably due to start having the tar buildup in your lungs from years of smoking start to break up and get coughed out. That said, long term coughing coming off of a cold also typically points to bronchitis, so I definitely agree a trip to the doc is in order.

But I was a smoker for 21 years, so I'm quite sure I'm still fighting to get all the crap out of my lungs. It's going to take a while. Many years in fact. Also, I have asthma, so it's common for me to get lung infections and upper respiratory infections. I have only had bronchitis twice since quitting smoking and starting vaping 4 years ago.

Coughing for 2 weeks with a history of asthma makes checking in with your doc a sound step. Feel better!

I had that issue, I ended up having to turn down the voltage to get used to it again
