Sometimes coughing can simply be the result of your lungs healing from the years of abuse. It's a common symptom of anyone who is quitting smoking - especially first thing in the morning. It could also be that the moisture of the vapor is collecting in the back of your throat and causing a tickle.

Is it a throat tickle cough or a help-I'm-choking cough, or it is just that the throat hit is so powerful?

I have been trying to drag very lightly, but have a manual at this time for the V4L. Trying to find the right time to stop has taken some time. Yes, I've been thinking that the coughing has to do with the throat hit. I do think it feels like a large large throat hits (to me at least). Who knew, e-cigs can be more powerful than "analog" cigs? Thanks all for your help. Very small drags are doing better for me.

My first couple weeks vaping was similar to when I started with analogs. Sore throat and cough. I was flabbergasted. I figured after 35 years of smoking, vaping would be a piece of cake.

I'm not surprised to hear that other new vapers experience the same thing. As others in this thread have said, keep some water handy and stay hydrated. You might want to have some cough drops or hardy candy to soothe your throat.
You might even be overdoing it a bit. If you're anything like me, I was so anxious for my PV to arrive, that when it finally did show up in my mailbox, I vaped myself silly.
Hang in there, keep the water or juice handy, and try to vape in moderation.
As my Mom used to say when things got rough, "This too, shall pass".

Is coughing normal when you take your first drags (like say when starting a new carto or 1st thing in the morning)? I'm not sure what is going on. I started at 16mg and went on to 18mg because of bad cravings. I'm a pack and half day smoker for 25 years.

I don't know if this helps or not but since I've switched to vaping I've noticed more and more that it depends on what kind of smoker you were. Two of my friends I got to switch over from analogs really have no problems. Although one of them takes really small hits. Both are using cartomizers on kr808's. However, one of my friends is having a real hard time switching, but he really wants to stop analogs. He smokes about 3 packs a day sometimes. Just as an idea of the cough degree, he tried one of my carts in my 808 and he pretty much reacted as if he ripped the meanest .... hit as well as rushing to the bathroom to hurl.

It could be that his lungs and throat are severely trashed. But the same thing happens no matter what mg strength he uses or device. I currently let him try my 808 and 510 stuff. It's been a couple of weeks and he's starting to do better with it. He recently bought a 510 kit to keep at it.

Basically I think coughing is normal, I had to get used to the TH when I first started a couple months ago. Didn't exactly cough but I could see me coming close to getting choked up. Kind of like when you started analogs. I don't think anyone really was pro overnight, lol. ....but yeah, just throwing my 2 cents out there, hope it was helpful. If anything I'm sure it will pass shortly.
