I saw some of the HUMCO today at walmart for $2.99. Perfect little bottle but it didn't say VG, just 99.5% glycerin.

That's the stuff as long as anything you buy says USP on it, which that does.

The vegetable part is irrelevant once it is pure. Although the source (vegetable or animal) might have some effect on trace contaminants in the final product, since it is USP, trace contaminants deemed unsafe for human consumption were below thresholds.
