I am a GUY from L.A. not girl. lol
I make soap so I already had a 5 gallon bucket of USP 99.7 Vegetable Glycerin from Columbus Foods Soaper's Choice. Its still clear and sweet after sitting around for at least a year. They also sell a 10 pound bottle. (in the neighborhood of a gallon)
SoapersChoice.com - Product Listing

Wow, great price! I may try that 10lb er. I'm liking the Now, but it is $10 per pound.

I did a little research and found a nice chart showing the requirements for USP Glycerin: Glycerin Specifications, Crude Glycerin, Technical Grade Glycerin, USP Grade Glycerin

Apparently it requires 99.7% minimum purity. I looked around for places that show their test results and many said "up to 99.9% achieved" but none claimed 100%. I've still only seen that claim from commercial companies that sell skin care products.

So GoodDog, I saw you ask about it before and I'd say Essential Wholesale's is just as good as those claiming 99.7% or more. Also still the best price I've found.

Yeah, too bad postage is so high through USPS. I'm kinda lucky in that I buy my PG from Capella's when I go to pick my order up, so no shipping charges on anything -- just the gas it takes to drive the 13 miles over there. I did not, however, buy VG, as I have quite a bit, so I don't know how their VG tastes yet and probably won't for months.

Seabrook, I bought some of Capella's VG and PG with my last order but they were only 4oz bottles and that won't last me very long. I haven't tried it but Tom said it's the same USP stuff they use in their flavorings. Do you think they would give you a tour of their lab? You could take pictures for us. LOL

Really? I've barely put a dent in my 16oz NOW bottle. It may last me up to the expiration date, 03/2013.:2cool:

I've never asked Tom if he offers tours. I'll ask him when I go out to pick up the three NEW flavors they're coming out with. I do know that they have outgrown their facilities, so they will be moving to a larger site. IDK how busy he is w/that huge task, as he may not want anyone underfoot during this time, but I'll ask him when I can. I imagine his facilites are immaculate, as Capella's is highly regulated and inspected by the State of California since it is state law that anything consumable (flavorings) CANNOT be made in a home environment due to sanitation issues. Those that do make flavorings from their home environment for consuming/ingestion/vaping are in violation of California state law.

He may not offer tours, as to go into the lab, one would have to gown up, also shoe covers, face mask, hair cover, gloves, the whole deal. That could be expensive for the company if they were to offer all this gear to every person that wants to "just look at their lab."

Columbus Foods is cheaper and I'm sure just as good but the smallest they sell is 10#. It is around $16.50 for 10 lbs. instead of 1 (16oz.) for 8.99. It does not leave any bad after taste and is a good clean USP grade vape. I do buy some now foods essential oils to add to
e liquid when I don't want to wait for the mail because I can just pick it up at the health food store.

People please read my sticky on PG/VG labeling :

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/52669-pg-vg-labeling-purity-please-read.html

The NOW brand is NOT USP grade(rather a health/natural food product) and falls under the DSHEA 1994 Act(which is explained in my sticky). There is NO SUCH thing as 100% anything(it's impossible to get anything 100% pure even in labaratory analytical grade). As a pharmacist, the only thing I recommend is USP grade as it's the only grade whose manufacture, labeling, marketing is regulated directly by the FDA(therefore, they MUST be truthful on their labeling and adhere to rigorous manufacture & labeling standards). It's all explained in the above sticky. USP standard for Glycerin is 99.5% anhydrous(which is pharmaceutical grade) and is the purest and safest grade available to consumers OTC. My guess on why the NOW brand "tastes" sweeter is that they most likely add some amount of high fructose corn syrup(which, according to DSHEA 1994, they are supposed to disclose in their labeling - but since DSHEA allows the manufacturer to self-regulate-i.e. no direct FDA intervention-they don't).

Thanks for the clarification markarich159. Vaping high fructose corn syrup is more scary than my suspicions about NOW were before!

10 lbs of Glycerin is a little less than a gallon, which is $11 at Essential Wholesale. Although if you can get that USP VG locally, the shipping saved is probably worth it.

Just as a general rule, do not buy Glycerin at a health food store UNLESS it is labeled exactly as described in my previously referenced sticky. And if it's labeled as vegetable glycerin, that should be an automatic tip-off that it is NOT USP grade.

I respect your education and concern, but I really believe you are worrying a bit much. And as Seabrook mentioned, her Now bottle DOES say USP on the label. As for it having corn sweetener in it, I didn't say it was sweeter than Humco, I said it had less of a chemical taste to it. Can you explain why that is?

Most likely an unlabeled additive; again just because USP appears somewhere on the label it doesn't mean that it actually is, FDA labeling standards are very strict for TRUE OTC (pharma grade) product but not for health food.........I would really love to go over this with you, I just don't have the time right now(and I've addressed this issue so many times over the past year-which is what caused Smokey to ask me to create the sticky). My PG/VG labeling sticky took me some time to put together & is very comprehensive and addresses all of this and more. The answers to your questions are somewhere in there(specifically the part about the DSHEA of 1994).But it comes down to , it's your life and lungs , buy what you want and are comfortable with, if you don't want to take my word don't. But at least do some research and dont simply believe what an unregistered , non cGMP company, producing an unapproved product says. take care and good night to all.

You're kidding! I wouldn't think Geoff would give ANY of his mixing secrets away, LOL. I'll have to cruise over there and check the TV thread out, might learn something interesting, LOL. I do love his butter rum and his AC, but Elf still have my curiosity in bloom with his very time-consuming recipe. It seems like the more care and love you put into a recipe, the better it responds, LOL.
Do you have a link to elf's thread?

After having tried various VG's, I stick with Essential Wholesale VG and PG now-days. It stores well, does not have any aftertaste, and is cost effective.

Everyone will have their own opinions, and that is just mine.

Seabrook and SimpleSins, you can use PA's Cotton Candy as the premixed EM. (Yes, I am lazy and cheat by using it instead of mixing my own. :p)

Hi Ast_Isis,
Thanks for the tip. I actually don't use any flavorings except Capello's (and LorAnns every once in a while). I am pretty picky on insisting that my flavorings and other ingred, be USP-grade and are made in a sanitary lab. That's why I started making my own eJuice. I know that might sound like a little too picky to some, but that's just me, a picky chicky. I made your recipe of PB Cups but subst. Vanilla Custard for the Bav. Crm., since I didn't have BC. Thanks for the recipe.
