I have been reading all the stuff about mods, including all the safety issues and battery warnings. It's kind of put me off a bit, but at the same time I really want one. The reason I want one is that in the event of a ban, I think I would be able to sustain vaping longer with a mod - is this correct? I have been using a 801 penstyle, and am very happy with it. If I were not worried about availability of parts, I would not even be thinking about a mod. If I were to get a mod, it would have to be able to use 801 attys, as these are all I have ( and I have been trying to get as many as I can ). I have also bought quite a few batteries for them, but I am concerned that attys may outlive the batteries, as I gather that the batteries die over time even if you don't use them. So, my question is : what mod would be good for me given that - it has to use an 801 or equal atty, and is as safe as possible, and wouldn't need to be charged up any more often than a penstyle battery? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give on this! I do the reading, but I don't understand a lot of the info out there.

While the ban of proprietary batteries is likely a low probability, yes, the mod batteries would be readily available.

Batteries are not likely to 'die over time' when not used.

Look for mods that offer the 801 connection or get some 510 to 801 adapters - available at a wide range of vendors. The Janty Stick has a natural 801 connection.

Mods are very much a personal choice. They vary in terms of their finish and materials from the utilitarian (e.g. a plastic box mod) to beautifully made machined items in high grade alloys, with a varying range of price tags to match! With that in mind its hard to make specific recommendations.. However the Puresmoker Icon looks very nice IMO :) And the Eastmall Indulgence or Screwdriver seem reasonable choices at a decent price. These are just some examples and there are hundreds available, and it comes down to how much you want to spend and what you like the look of.

A link that Don has posted in the past is a comprehensive guide to mods here - http://www.ecigarette-mods.com/index.html - unfortunately it is down for me at the moment (hopefully temporary).

As Kent has noted with adapters you can use a penstyle atomizer on virtually any mod, even if its not available in an 801 fitting by default.

While batteries do lose capacity over time, if storing them their life can be prolonged by keeping them partially discharged (@ approximately 40% charge or 3.75v unloaded voltage) and in a cool place. New batteries are normally provided at this level of charge. You can read more about prolonging the life of lithium batteries here - How to prolong lithium-based batteries
