Five years after Washington residents voted to ban smoking cigarettes, cigars and pipes in public places, King County wants to add one more thing to the list: Electronic cigarettes.

If King County's proposal is passed, it's believed it would be the strictest in the country. A handful of states and other jurisdictions have some e-cigarette rules, but none as comprehensive as the one proposed here.

Yea, those are my people. Ignorant bureaucrats, they just parrot the classic FDA Sound bite and perpetuate the scare message. It is no longer about protecting the public, now they just don't like the look of it. "It looks like smoking". and of course the tried and true "Gateway to harder stuff" line.

OMG!

Thanks,
Jeff~

Oyy. Seattle. I LOVE Seattle...the market, the needle, the Starbucks on every corner...It's my homeland and I will truly miss it if King County bans Vaping and I have to drive all the way to Everett just to vape in public... Yes, Everett is too busy trying to Ban the bikini baristas, so will never have time to ban vaping! (for those who don't know...a bikini barista is an espresso stand where the girls are wearing almost nothing...and sometimes selling a little something "extra" with your latte...)
I'm just so dang tired of people wanting to ban anything that looks like someone might be enjoying themselves. Seriously?...the article says "smokers might mistake the vapor for smoke and think it's OK to smoke"...Miserable Goofballs.

That's the bit I can't get my head around as well.

So I've given up the smokes and started vaping for health.....a smoker sees me vaping and lights up, even though he knows its banned....his secondhand smoke damages the public's health......apparently this is all my fault, so I'm now banned from vaping!!!!

Nah...still don't get it.

HAha ha I KNEW after I posted that, that SOMEONE would want to go check it out!!! Everett is about 20 miles or so North of Seattle, and is where Boeing is located, so YES, Paine field airport is located there 8^).
What is really humorous to me is that people's biggest complaint about the baristas ISN't that so many of them have been busted for prostitution...but that "families" drive up to the stand not knowing that their children are going to see half naked baristas. Sheesh. I'm a woman, so I don't tend to go to those stands myself, but I think if you can't figure out that "Sexy Kitten Espresso" just MIGHT be an Adult Only stand, then you deserve what you get!
Anyway...OT, but still the SAME mentality as the E-Cig haters...

Slightly good news. I e-mailed the author of the piece and requested she consider writing a more balanced follow-up article, and pointed out that the County's quoting of the FDA report about the diethelyne glycol and carcinogens was disingenuous in light of the facts.

She quickly e-mailed me back and asked for some information. In addition to a copy of the FDA's report (which she asked for), I sent her the CASAA, its 8 Myths article, a couple other links, and contact info for Elaine Keller and Bill Godshall. Hopefully she puts in a phone call to someone.

Thank you Placebo Effect for your efforts, hopefully they won't fall on ears plugged with piles of cash. I'm so glad I live in a country where I have a voice, and that my voice will dissipate into the wind.....

I've only recently started vaping, however, ANYTHING that is put into law that has a direct effect on my personal life, and what I choose to do to my own body infuriates me.

The problem is not that they violate the technicality of the smoking ban laws, if you wanted to wait around until the law got there they could not prosecute successfully most likely. The issue is that private establishments where you might want to vape can ask anyone to leave for almost any reason other than legal discrimination and if it's somewhere you want to stay, you really don't have any way to object without being asked to leave. My biggest fear is that either the state nannys or the feds will simply extend the provisions of the federal clean air act to include devices constituting an "analog" of a real cig. Then we will all be "vapin' in the rain".
