so as far as easy of use...they are all about the same. just the look and the options you'd want.

So...i need a ohms reader, yes? can i use a vamos i wonder?

When working with RBAs, it's necessary to have a resistance meter. A digital multi meter is the best idea. They can be found rather cheaply. If you use a variable voltage device which allows you to check ohms, such as a Provari, Vamo, ZMax, VMax, etc., you can use it. The important thing is to always check your resistance, before firing the coil.

I just started building a coil & when I first put it in my provari it read 2.4 ohm. After which I began to adjust the hotspots and I measure again the numbers fluctuates up and doesn't stop. Any idea why is that?

Already my 9th wick going crazy.

Check two things. Sometimes, rising resistance is due to a loose connection. Check your + and - connections. Also, if your wick isn't properly oxidized, and it is sitting on the bottom of the tank, the resistance will rise. This happens sometimes when adjusting the coils. If the wick, under the coil, is properly oxidized, it doesn't matter if the wick touches the bottom of the tank or not. But sometimes, during the set up process, it will make a difference.

i want to say again that you, and the rest of the more experienced RBA users commenting here, are awesome man. The questions we noobs ask are surely simple in your eyes, but you still put the time in to help us. thanks.

i like to run two mods...so it kinda justifies getting a vamos or zmax lol

You're welcome. You can get by with using the ohm meter on your Vamo, or whatever. But if you ever decide to get a mechanical mod, a digital multi meter will become essential.

i'm really interested into getting into RBAs, with tanks, and i have a few questions:

1. how "all-day-vaping" friendly is an RBA? meaning, is it real "touchy" to being knocked around a bit or rolling on my passenger seat cushion? i see several people (normally pretty new at it i think) saying they don't feel comfortable taking a RBA out on the town.

2. tilting. do they all require tilting to vape? outside of the natural tilting that happens while vaping.

3. What would you good people suggest for a "mid-level" starter? meaning not a protank...but a good, user friendly, AGA-t2 or something?

4. you all kick much .... :D

i'm willing to get involved with the tinkering and building required to get the set-up right...i just want to get something that best matches the "feel" of vaping i've gotten use to (carto tank).

  1. on your first tank, it may be touchy as you still havent built up enough oxidation that comes with regular vaping. i havent felt that my tanks were too touchy, but a nice enough whack of a mod on a table and you may move the coil out of place. If you have to set your tank on a table gently, you should revisit coil wrapping 101.. lol
  2. Too much tilting... sign of inproper wick setup... wrong wick for wrong juice/coil. there are many threads in this section for proper wick setups....
  3. on the cheap, i say go RSST... helps ya get in the game without too many shorting issues. well designed tank.
  4. yes, i am that cool... my mommy told me so.

:toast:

thanks to you fine folk...i've ordered a couple RSSTs and some 28 Gauge A-1 Resistance Kanthal Wire from hoosiervapes and some 400 SS mesh from clouds of vapor
You could do yourself a favor by getting some 30 or 32 awg wire if you're going to be running it on a regulated device. 28 awg is typically reserved for wrapping low ohm coils on mechanicals.

That's not to say 28 won't work for you but you'll need to add a fair bit of wire to the coil to get above the low ohm cutoff on those devices. It will also take a lot of power to heat that wire up... More than most regulated devices can deliver.

Some people swear by 28 on a regulated device, but I'd recommend that you have some thinner gauges on hand so that you can decide for yourself.

I honestly went with the 28 for the exact reason you state. I have bolts right now with a mechanical ELA coming sometime soon.

When I get a vv I'll get that 30-32 that you suggest :)
