I have read about adding PGA or high-proof vodka for increasing TH, but how much, or should I say, in what percentage is it best added? Also, can the Vanilla flavored Vodka be used?:p

I have also read about letting your DIY juice sit for 24 hours before using it. Why is this?

Lastly, I have seen mention of Ethyl Maltol a few times now in recipes. What exactly is it and what is it used for?

Sorry for the questions, but hey, I am still trying to learn all of this.

For the first part, you can read the guides, or, better yet, just give it a try and see what happens. Your experiments are for your tastes.

Sitting a juice let's the mixture even out. Think like maturing wine. It may need time for all the flavors to come together.

Ethyl Maltol, also known as Cotton Candy, is used to sweeten mostly. It can also meld or add character to some flavors. (Like tobacco). It tastes like cotton candy with a carmal like finish to me. Buying it as ethyl maltol is generally cheaper than buying it as cotton candy flavoring, but buying maltol and suspending it yourself is even cheaper.

You can use PGA for a throat hit and just a few drops of Everclear works but if your using PG in your mixes you should be getting a throat hit from that. Letting juices ferment as I call it also helps out as Hoosier mentioned also. I dont add anything to a flavor of DIY I make for atleast one day as the flavor does change with time

Vanilla vodka should be fine, but you won't really taste the vanilla at all. And unless it's more 80 proof or more it will be mostly water and won't add much TH. I'd say 5-10% is a good starting point, but I've heard of people using 20%.

 I am new to ECF and this is my first post. If this is not an appropriate place for this, please move me.

Does anyone know how Everclear would affect a recovering alcoholic? Would it burn off like it does in cooking?

I would hate to jeopardize 13+ years of sobriety trying to achieve a good TH while creating my own e-juice.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

I am not an alcoholic, so I may look at this the wrong way, but look at it that way: Most people vape between 2 and 4 ml a day. If you mix up a liquid that contains 10% alcohol, then that would be between 0.2ml and 0.4ml alcohol, consumed over probably more than 12 hours.

You probably get more alcohol from drinking apple juice, or eating a sauce with red wine - because although alcohol evaporates quicker than water, it does by no means evaporate magically the moment things get heated past 100°C, or anything like that. Otherwise, drinking mulled wine for example would be a bit pointless. (Of course, one might argue it is anyway, but you get the point.) And probably, you were able to tolerate such dishes fine.

The human large intestine contains roughly 10^14 (one followed by 14 zeros) bacteria. Among those bacteria are some that ferment polysaccharides to fatty acids. But, a couple of groups of bacteria (bifidobacteria and clostridia) produce, tada, ethanol. ( see Table 1 at Factors affecting fermentation reactions in the large bowel )

I can't find a link, but if memory serves me correct, bacteria in the human gut produce between 1/2 and 1 ounce of ethanol each day. Compared to what little might get vaped, this is a small amount but what gets vaped is even smaller.

However, if you have alcohol allergy or suffer from alcoholism, even the small amount in vapor might be too much. Approach with caution and check with your doctor or AA partner!

Good advice above, but I'd also like to recommend you try other options for TH first. Some flavors naturally irritate the throat causing TH, such as cinnamon. If you french inhale (inhale into mouth, then pull into lungs) you might try directly inhaling into your lungs so the vapor is more concentrated. You might consider vaping with a higher voltage mod and/or more powerful atomizer. You can try a 5 volt passthrough for the 510 for just $15 at MadVapes.

I purchased some everclear as it seemed to be the preferred method of cutting VG..but I've found that the throat hit I get from it is too harsh and the VG is just killing my atties. I'm going back to just mixing PG juice personally. I've also been sober for over 20 years now and I don't have too much problem with using it to mix something considering the tiny amount used, but it bugs me more just to have it in the house..even though it's a small bottle. I'll probably find someone and give it away soon..just don't need it.

One thing to watch out for when mixing e-juice is not to get it too thin.
too thick and it is easy to thin out, to thin and you'll be diluting it with VG and staring over. How thin is too thin, exactly this thin >>> ( . )

OR,
standardize you juice by comparing relative viscosity. Maybe with somethng like this.
My fall and winter juice goes through this at 0.67ml/minute. (1.5 minutes/ml)
