Somewhere out there
I make beaded jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, earrings, glasses keepers, etc.) for friends, family, and some people who have me design and make jewelry gifts for them to give. Have also made a few custom Swarovski crystal bridal sets and bridesmaid's jewelry sets for weddings. Swarovski crystal pendants on necklaces are "biggies" around the holidays, too! Think I filled orders for 30-40 of those last Christmas for friends to give to their relatives.

I use mostly natural semi-precious gemstone beads in a variety of shapes & sizes, & gemstone pendants, too. Swarovski crystal beads & pendants though, are my favorite in both vintage new ones and current ones! I've got a collection of vintage jewelry pieces made by some of the old-time companies (ie. Lisner, Vendome, Coro, Laguna, etc.), using a lot of Swarovski crystal beads that haven't been made since 1964. Those...I love to sometimes take apart some of the more ordinary ones...and remake into something new & different.

Collecting the vintage Swarovski beads & pendants has also turned into a rather nice investment for me, since their value goes up an average of 5-10% per year. I lucked out and bought 8 boxes of 6 large, vintage, Swarovski pendants in 2002, that were discontinued in 1968 and are very sought after now. I paid $18 per box of 6. Now...each pendant sells for $36-58, when/if you can find them. Have a variety of those types of vintage pieces stashed.

Beading is very relaxing IMO, and it's a hobby anyone can get into for not much investment (unless you get into collecting like me). The rewards are being able to design something totally unique, out of materials you want in the piece, in the colors you want, the style you want, the exact length, etc. In that way...it's kind of like DIY! :)

I've also taught about 6-8 local friends and past co-workers how to do it. They still say it saves them a ton of money come gift-giving time, and they know the gift they give is absolutely unique. The recipient will never see someone else wearing the same piece.

So...some of you might want to think about making beaded jewelry as a hobby! Might take your mind off wanting more vape gear!

Geez...that was long. Sorry!
So cool! Pics please :)

I skipped the card making...I walked into my first card making store...I just knew I was in BIG trouble, so I just didn't even start...

I told my mom about this amazing Cricut infomercial I had seen. I was just amazed by all it could do. That year guess what I got for Christmas? lol

I'd never made a paper craft ever. But I will say it was nice not having to pay $4+ for a birthday card that just gets tossed. Cards are so ridiculously priced these days. I really need to make time to get back into that.

Those are cool!! Yes, the price for cards has gotten ridiculous. I expect to pay more for the nicer ones, but just any kind of card is right at $4.

Isn't it fun! I have the Silhouette Cameo and make all kinds of wakadoodle things. I've drifted a bit from it and need to get back into it. Life just gets in the way of all our crafty fun sometimes!

I loved doing it. The more stuff I "hoarded" the more of a pita it was to bring everything downstairs to the kitchen table. I need to set up a crafting corner in our spare bedroom so it's all ready to go instead of unpack/re packing everything. It could be my vape corner too. ;)

Here is the link for the old folks hangout. No one is using it right now. Sign in - Google Accounts I don't have sound, but you can hear me.
You need a g-mail account. I use google/chrome for everything except for e-mail. My g-mail is a very sleepy account.

I will be watching the hangout tonight if someone makes it in. Should have a quilt to show, too.

I love handmade soaps!! I just got some from Essential Depot with my VG order to try.
There is an Amish lady in the area who makes soaps and sells them at farmer's market. The best I can do is collect fragmented bars of soap and re-melt them. Saves pennies and is ugly. I have one drying on the patio.

Yes do!! :)

A lighted magnifier makes a HUGE difference. I was having the same problem, started using one, and problem solved.
You know the metal thing you use with the magnetic line finder/keeper thingie, to use to follow your pattern? They even have those magnified!!
Oh yes, back in business...well back stitching.

The gourds sound nice. I love natural things for the yard!

Great photos!! That's the Chesapeake Bay Bridge - Tunnel, right??

Can't wait to see that!!

I have two GORGEOUS books that someone made me tough.
I should post pics of those too.

I had an at home beaded jewelry business, and sold online for about 6 years.
I had to stop when my mom got sick and I was needed to help look after her, then I just never got back to it.
I had gotten really burnt out with so many special orders that it just wasn't fun anymore.
I still have everything, I just can't bare to part with things, but I have no desire to even make things for myself. I think I officially closed in 2006.
I will get back to it someday though, not back in business, I really have no desire to do that again, but making things for myself, that I will do eventually.
So, I have oodles of pictures of all that I could post.:lol::lol:

Bring some pics over, or post the link!!
I thought there was a thread somewhere!

Thanks for the compliment.. and no, it's not the Chesapeake bay bridge tunnel, it's the East River Mountain tunnel.. (Bluefield)

I made a banner for my new SIL bridal shower. Last night I tried to upload a pic using the upload file below but it wouldn't work. "File too large". Odd since I posted a pic of my ego/clearo set up last week :(

You might try a photo hosting service then you can just link the url. It's probably because your out of space this site allows for uploads. I linked my pictures from deviant, since that is where I upload to. But they have things like photobucket where you can upload to, and then just use the url so it doesn't take up bandwidth on this site.

I love buying lye soap from the Amish, and they are some of the only people left who make lye soaps. I'm terribly allergic to poison ivy (and poison oak and poison sumac..lol) and if I accidentally get into it, I have to wash in lye immediately..

As for ugly, if it works, there is no shame in ugly. :) but then, I'm a bit utilitarian.. :)

Thank you so much! I'm happy you like it!

I thought it was the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel too. Beautiful photographs. :)

Thank you very much for the compliment.

Your right, I have never been to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel, but when I first posted it on deviant art that it what several members thought as well.. so I figure they must look a lot alike.. perhaps a tunnel is a tunnel is a tunnel.. lol.. :)

View attachment 585671 Finally got some pics of Fatty Lumpkin the pony :) Spun on a French drop spindle and crocheted out of wool and cashmere. The pattern is fun because you make up the geometric pieces then assemble as you go. The pony is pretty big about 18 long and 10 inches high. I stuffed him with alternative down so he is very cuddly :) LOL

Ok, guys, I have a question .. first I need to know if this is the correct place to post this. A while back, I discovered there's some talented logo designers on here (that's how we got ours). Anyway, at the fall shows my husband does, I'm going to be making and selling praline pecans. I am wanting a logo designed and have not had good experiences with companies in the past (I don't want just fancy words). Is this where I would post it? Like my last logo, I would trade tips or website credit in exchange for the one I choose.
