I might be nuts but I thought I'd check to see if anyone else has tried this. I have several eGo 5 and 6 batteries where the liquid has leaked so much that the battery's button sticks occassionally. Now, I have a battery that will not hold a charge at all. I was wondering if I could turn the battery upside down (threads down) and soak the battery in a cup of rubbing alcohol? For the life of me, I cannot open the battery to clean out the insides and remove any gunk in the battery. Maybe I'm just not pulling it hard enough or I'm too afraid of ruining the battery case by squeezing it too firmly with pliers.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated if this method won't work. I've taken apart my chargers and cleaned them thoroughly with a q-tip and alcohol and I've cleaned the threads of the battery with a q-tip and alcohol but now I'd like to clean the inside of the button's housing. Any ideas?

Thanks

Dumb questions...

Battery OFF
how do you turn the battery "OFF"? Do you mean just run it all the way down? Or do you mean Off as in disconnected from anything else like Off of the cartomizer, charger, etc?

Battery Top Down

I assume this means threads down, LCD end up?

Thanks for the suggestions. Next step is to figure out WHY I keep having liquid leak out of the cartomizer and into the battery to begin with...lol

I assume I can get the electronics cleaner at any hardware store? Home Depot? Lowe's? etc? Or is this a speciality item I have to go to an electronics store?

Just as crxess said, don't attempt to take one apart. You will do more damage and the possibility of shorting out the battery is very real.

Crazy idea for battery cleaning?

Not all that Crazy. Here is something I posted back in 2011...

As an Absolute Last Resort.

You can try soaking the battery in 91% Isopropyl Alcohol for a few minutes. Followed by shaking out all the Alcohol and a couple of days of drying.

It could kill your battery but it did save a battery I had that I was going to throw out anyway.

But I would ONLY Suggest doing an Rubbing Alcohol Soak as a Last Resort.

Ok, Radio Shack it is on the way home. THe one battery I have that won't charge up AT ALL, I might give the alcohol a try.

Thank you one and all for your help...I really appreciate it. I've been vaping since 2008 but just now starting to really get into making my own heads and deep cleaning...lol. In the past, I just bought more supplies.

BTW - Here is a Tip for thread Cleaning with a Q-Tip.

If you Smash the Tip of the Q-Tip down flat with a Hammer (or some other Blunt Instrument) it works Better to get any e-Liquid that is between the Center Post and the Threads of a 510 Connector.

A Smash a Dozen or so at time and keep them inside an Altoids Tin in my Vape Gear Drawer of my desk.

if a battery is on its last leg i see no problems in taking it apart , its the only way to learn about it , ive taken many apart and resoldered broken wires and loose grounds and the first one was the only one i broke , no loss but everything to gain

Absolutely.

If it is Going to go to the Trash Anyway, what is there to Lose?

BTW - Congratulations on your 1K Post. When you make your Next Post that is.
