I've gathered that there are a lot of things that affect the quality of the vape. PG provides more of a throat hit, VG provides more vapor. Nic levels can affect the taste and TH, especially at higher levels. Different voltages can produce difference tastes even for the same flavors, but high voltage may be a bit much for some of the more "delicate" flavors.

So now I'm curious if the various sizes like 510, 802, 901 (are these thread sizes?) affect it. I tried to poke around the mod forum to see if I could glean any info buried between omega symbols and mAh ratings, but that just confused me.

I figure since the make adaptors that go from one to the other there must be something that makes one preferential over the other. Can anybody do Atties for Dummies and explain the difference for me?

Hi SimpleSins,

This is confusing isn't it. I'm a noob, just a week, but I've been lurking through here for about three weeks trying to figure out the same things.

First, taste... I think you understand taste and TH from what you said. But some people seem to interpret the same things differently. It seems that just trying different things, like different bases , flavors and voltages is the only way to decide what you like best. Sorry, a non-answer, but it appears to be that way from what I read.

I think you're right again on the sizes. 510, 802, etc. are just talking about the proprietary threading on the different e-cigs. e.g., I'm using a T-Rex/Ego which has a 510 connector. I can't use an 802 or 901 without an adapter which goes from my 510 battery and has a 802 or 901 thread on the other end (not an electrical adapter, but a thread adapter.)

The omega you refer to stands for resistance... how hard or easy it is for electricity to flow through the wire. You've probably seen the LR (Low Resistance) or HR (High Resistance). I've also seen it referred to as impedance. LR and HR are resistance ratings for attys and cartos. Think of it as how much power can this atty or carto pull from the battery. An LR atty can draw more power than an HR atty. LRs are popular because they generate a lot of heat in the coil (that extra power) and give good vaper. The downside is they really drain the battery quickly. I normally use an HR around 2.8 ohms. I tried an LR, at about 2.2 ohms, and I drained the battery two times faster. If you have plenty of batteries or one with a high mah (comming next) an LR might be a good tradeoff - for me, I want better stay time so I use the HRs at about 2.7 or 2.8.

MAh is, simply put, related to how long your battery will last in relationship to how much power the atty is using. Think of it as how big your bucket (battery) is and how much water (stored energy) it can hold. The biger the mAh the longer the battery will last. It's a good thing to look for especially if you find your current batteries are always running out at inconvenient times.

I've probably oversimplified these, but I think the basic concepts are there. There are more technical explanations in other threads (E-Cigarett Technical) if you decide to up your nerd quotient. Hopefully, if any of the more knowledgeable folks happen by they'll correct me if I've led you astray.

take care, hope this helps.

I guess I wasn't real clear in my question; I'm sorry. What difference does it make? For instance, I've got an eGo and Riva, threaded 510. I see that they make adapters that will take that 510 to different sizes and I wondered what impact the different sizes have on the vaping experience. If I was using my eGo with an 801 adapter and carto on, would I notice a difference?

Yes, I think you will notice a difference. Just as the various e-liquids offer different things, each atty/carto has it's own individual characteristics. I would suggest you order an adapter or two and a couple of different attys and cartos to experiment with. For me, that's a lot of the fun of vaping. You can read the various reviews, but only you can determine what you like or dislike about each one.

Sorry about that! CJsKee is right. From what I've read it's all about personal preference. Experimenting to find what works best for you is probably the only way. Do you have friends locally that are using other than 510s? That would be the cheap way - buy the adapters and then swap.

I haven't found the need to venture from the 510 yet... I just got the Totally Wicked 510 Mega cart and it's my new favorite as of 2 hours ago... maybe when I run out of new 510 stuff to try I'll start venturing into other models.

happy experimenting! keep us posted on how it goes.
