Hi everyone,

I've quit cigs and been vaping for about 2 months now and couldn't be happier! Most of my friends are also relatively new to vaping (though slightly more experienced than me) and we are slowly learning our stuff.

Anyway, we've been having a debate and we're looking for help from more experienced vapers. How much does the nicotine level of a juice affect the flavor? Assuming you had two juices of the same flavor, from the same vendor, in the same vape, would there be a difference in taste between the 12 mg version and the 6 mg version? Would there be a difference in the throat hit?

Thanks in advance!

IMHO there is, I believe all else being equal that with the increased nic the flavor dwindles a bit as well. That may be because I don't really care for a strong throat hit. I have used different levels of the same juice from the same vendor and don't like to go above 18mg because of the throat hit and lack of taste. Could just be that vendor though.

Hi SmellYa. Good Question. I make many different nic levels of quite a few flavors. With the flavors that I make I find that for similar flavor performance between low and higher nicotine liquids I have to generally add more flavoring to the higher nicotine liquids for similar pallete performance. I have been at 6mg for almost the whole of this last year. I have three flavors that I enjoy quite regularly. My wife has two of my favorite flavors in her rotation at 30mg. For those two flavors my flavoring percentages for the peppermint in them are 8% for the 6mg and 11.5% for the 30mg. These are both menthol heavy with a difference in menthol base of 3% between them at 5% for the 6mg and 8% for the 30mg...... the cinnamon/menthol follows a similar pattern as well.

These liquids in their various strengths do have a very similar(if not nearly identical) flavor but I can tell which one is which. I regularly taste test my nicotine base and while it is "flavorless" there is something that I tend to pick up on in higher strengths that is lacking in the diluted version, most notably the hit associated with the nicotine.....

I would have to imagine that most custom liquid vendors would follow a similar pattern with their mixes to tailor their flavorings in a liquid based around the end nicotine strength desired for that specific mix. But I can see how a vendor who starts with a single batch % of flavoring in a given mix could end up having the lower nicotine version of that flavor taste different than its higher nicotine version...... But the higher nicotine of any liquid will nearly always(at least in my experience) have more of a hit than the lower strength version.

When you do get around to testing this question on your own, come back and fill us in on what you find. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

Personally I find that more nic does increase throat hit, but until you make a drastic change, like between 24 or higher and 0 nic, it doesn't affect flavor, then yes the high nic juice does have a slight peppery bite that the 0 nic lacks in the same flavor. (Probably the nic causing the tongue to burn a bit, making the brain think it's peppery.)

Thank for the replies everyone!

Your responses are in-line with what I expected. Perhaps a small difference in flavor/throat hit but probably not a drastic difference. I assume it's dependent on the specific brand/flavor to some degree as well.

Anyway, I'm about to make an order of my favorite juice but this time I will be ordering 6mg instead of 12mg which was the inspiration for this thread. I was concerned I wouldn't get the same flavor/throat hit I enjoy so much but it seems like it wont be much of a problem. I will keep everyone updated!
