Current smoker, curious about the possibilities of e-cigs?..

Hello there, good Sirs and Ma'ams! My name is Sean and I stumbled onto these forums while curiously searching about e-cigs. Seemed like a nice place I could come for some help from you guys, perhaps? To give you guys a bit of background info, I've been somewhat interested in this for a year or so, ever since I discovered these even existed. I'm 22 years old and have been a smoker since I was 14, albeit only a heavy one for three or so years. I smoke about a pack a day currently and cannot IMAGINE how I could survive the stresses of life without smoking. Other than a couple test drags at a mall kiosk, I have no experience with electronic cigarettes. Although the taste and burn felt freakishly like a real cigarette, I was left rather unimpressed as I did not feel any nicotine effects. For the life of me I cannot remember the brand or anything specific, so I can't really put too much stock into that experience as it could be a number of variables.

Anyway, I'm curious how the transition from smoking analogs to using a PV went for you guys (assuming you were a smoker previously). Did it satisfy your cravings for a cigarette at first or was there a stage of frustration? Any feedback and/or general information you could share is very much appreciated!

One thing that you get from normal cigs is an instant hit from carbon monoxide that comes from incomplete burning. That is that sort of light headed rush that comes with that first hit. E-cigs can't give you that. The nicotine hits a bit slower. Normally about the 5th puff you feel the nic kick in.

I found that when I left normal cigs completely there was a couple of weeks that I was just odd feeling. I also vapped like mad through that period. I had to go to lower nic juice because I would vape so much I would get light headed from the nic. After that period, everything sort of returned to feeling normal.

First of all, avoid those mall kiosk deals like the plague! Generally WAY overpriced, and low quality products.

You've come to the right place for information. This is a spam-free site, although some reputable suppliers have their own sections.

I started vaping about 2 months ago. Like you, I first became aware of the e-cig's existance at a mall kiosk, but I didn't buy there, deciding instead to do research. My first ecig was a kit from BluCigs.com, which was terrible, and I returned it under their 30-day money back guarantee. Then, I discovered this forum, and bought the Joye eGo kit from NicotineNirvana.com. It is AWESOME... great vapor, and battery lasts all day on a single charge. I have not wanted a single tobacco cigarette since I started vaping it!

The best way to do this is to buy the e-liquid separately. One major supplier of e-liquid is Dekang, which is from China. I personally don't care for it. The best e-liquids are made in the US, and you can pick the nicotine level and other factors that work best for you. Some folks like tobacco flavor, some like fruit flavor, others like sweet dessert-type flavors, like Banana Nut Bread from TastyVapor.com.

I would urge you to take some time and read this forum, and you will learn a lot. By the way, right now the best deal on a dual Joye eGo kit is at puresmoker.com at $49.99 plus shipping. I highly recommend that kit.

35 yr pack a day smoker.

I use what's known as a KR808D-1 e-cigarette, available from Vapor4life, NHaler, many other places.

Transition time from PAD to all e-cigarette was a total of about 12 days, 5 since I got my supply of 24 mg/ml nicotine tobacco-flavored liquid in (The next lower strength, around 16 mg/ml nicotine, is great for chain-vaping in front of a computer at work, but the stronger 24 gives a more cigarette-like nicotine effect -- I've seen multiple people mention this, that the 24 is what they needed to lose the cravings.)

A lot of people will mention it, that it's important to not force the changeover. For me I just left the regular cigs in the car, so it made it simpler to vape than smoke.

Check out the Library area on this forum, for a good multi-part intro to the topic.

Hello and welcome Mister!

I am 12 days into using an ecig, and I have cut my cigarette smoking in half so far. Like you, I smoked about a pack a day. Even with that decrease I alread FEEL BETTER. And you are so young, you'll probably feel an amazing difference in a few days.

There are tons of people here who can help you more with brands, makes, models than I can because I'm still researching my next model! I would guess however that the ecig you tried at the mall either had no nicotene in it or the level was too low for you...hence no nicotene buzz!

You've come to the right place for education! The veterans seem to always come to the rescue of us newbies!

You'll get all sort of different answers because everyone is different, but you'll also notice a common theme: e-cigs work!

I smoked for 37+ years. My first vaping session (KR808D-1 Vapor King from Vapor4Life) ended my smoking. I have not smoked since then and it was nearly nine months ago.

I understand your skepticism, but I urge you to give e-cigs a try. If you're like many here, you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how effective they are.

The most popular models seem to be the Joye 510, the Ego, and the KR808D-1. The latter is a 2-piece model. Whatever you do, don't buy those overpriced ones they sell in the mall - they're a rip-off.

+1 what VapingRulz said.

Speaking for myself: I bought my first PV as a curiosity, a gadget, with no plans nor intentions of quitting cigarettes. I smoked 1-2 packs a day for over 35 years. I quit smoking immediately, and unintentionally ... and shockingly without effort.

Since January 15, 2010, I have smoked several cigarettes. More out of curiosity than out of craving. Most recently, several weeks ago ... and, that one may well have been my last. I just wanted to see if my memory was deceiving me. I remembered enjoying cigarettes so much. I mean, why else would I keep doing something which I knew would kill me, and which was costing me at least $70 per week. And, you know what? Each cigarette I smoked only served to convince me that I can never go back to cigarettes, even if PVs are banned. I will then have to deal with nicotine withdrawal, but I can't smoke any more.

It would be less than honest to imply that my experience is typical, but it is not that uncommon either. The vast majority of people on this forum will give such glowing stories of their vaping experience. But, it does not work for everyone. No doubt, those people are not regulars on this forum. There is only one way to find out if it will work for YOU. That is to do the research (ECF is a good resource), buy yourself a quality PV (stay away from Mall Kiosks), some good juice, and see how it goes for you.

From my understanding usually at those mall kiosks they have 0 nic for people to try, some only sell 0 nic carts and juice.

I was a 20+ year smoker @ a PAD. I started with 18mg and am now vaping 12mg and am thoroughly satisfied.

I got my kr808 yesterday (vaporjunction $25) I have 3/4 of a pack of smokes that I haven't touched since last night. I put together a cartomizer of menthol and I have had no desire for a ciggie since. I have had a couple of times of thinking about it....and I remember the yak nasty, ash tray licking, where did my breath go taste and I puff a few times and the thought goes clean away. I don't know if I will pick up another ciggie again. I may just stick these in the freezer, or mount them over my fireplace.
It's a good choice. Initial cost appears more than what it really is (consider it a month's worth of ciggies in one outlay) long term, you will see a return on your investment...oh yeah, and better health to boot.

Good luck.

I first heard of ecigs about a year ago too. I guess I'm a bit more impulsive, because I went on a frenzied search and bought the first RN4081 I could get a decent deal on locally, then bought an M401 online. After a few days of using the ecigs and regular cigarettes, I tried using the ecigs only. It worked. The most amazing thing is that i still have the partial pack of cigarettes that I never finished after getting the ecigs. I keep it as a testament to how great these things are.

Like others have said, your experience may be different. If you are willing to invest a little bit of effort in learning how to make the most of an ecig, though, I think you'll find that it makes quitting cigaretes easy.

I'm only 4 days analog free. The first day I received my Joye eGo I went from smoking 2 packs of analogs a day to 1, the 2nd day down to 1/2 pack, the 3rd day 0 analogs and have been analog free for a total of 4. I have been feeling really weird, guess it's from lack of all the chemicals, I am getting my sense of smell back already and feeling much better. I cannot believe how effortless of a transition this has been. I have had a few moments when I thought about smoking an analog, but it quickly passed. I have not been anxious, nervous, or had any withdrawals. My experience to date has been phenomenal! Good luck...take it one day at a time!

Figure I'll share my story with you just to highlight how different everyone's experiences are with ecigs. I also went for the "mall brand" It was smoking everywhere and I had a test at a mall in Vegas and loved the way it felt. When I got my kit back home though it didn't take long for me to be sick of it, it wouldn't consistently vape right, felt less like a cigarette every time and I couldn't go without actual cigarettes yet and didn't want to invest anymore money in liquid or cartridges etc.. I had just about given up on ecigarettes and was starting to roll my own analogs again (to save money) when I came across Blu cigs. I bought their 59 dollar kit and was immediately in love when it first arrived, the flavors were actually nice and the hit was MUCH more consistent, but the batteries would die out very quickly, and the cartridges had to be replaced 3-4 times a day, contrary to what Blu said about a cartridge being more like a pack (utter bull....) So I gave up again, not wanting to spend oodles of cash on refill carts that wouldn't last as long as advertised. Finally I found this place, and let me say you are lucky you did before you bought, there is a plethora of information here. I bought a dse905 (mass produced big battery mod) and a USB pass through from thevaporpro. I instantly fell in love, I actually used a 510 atomizer and found what I was missing. The PV was great but the USB was freaking amazing, it tastes and feels almost identical to a cigarette with 555 liquid from dekang. I've been vaping exclusively for several months now. It did take a bit of transition time, roughly 1 month after I got my DSE905 and my USB passthrough. I would just need less and less analogs per day, and I didn't feel like going outside (Michigan winters SUCK) so I would vape instead. One day I just tried to go all day without a real cig and I was surprised that I didn't even really crave one. I work with all smokers my family all smoke so I can't avoid being near it, but I still don't feel the need to have one even when they offer. So yea there is some transition time, just do it moderately until you feel comfortable enough to put down the analogs and let vaping completely replace it. Good luck on your vaping.

I think expectations play a big role in how well your first E-Cig is received.
If you are expecting an easy way to quit smoking......you may be really frustrated with the odd flavors and tinkering involved with an E-Cig, and just chuck it in the garbage.

If you have NO expectations of quiting smokes..... it can kind of sneak up on you.....and you can stop.. WITHOUT EVEN TRYING !:toast:

I've smoked about a pack a day for 10 years up untilabout a month ago. I origionally bought an Envy kit from a local place cause it was the cheapest, but screwed it up by trying to clean misc fibers out of it by using a toothpick. Accidentally ripped the coil out of the atty. Next I bought the Blu kit. It was ok but the carts don't last very long. Now using a 510 from Modern Vapor and making my own juice. I have tried a couple of cigs here and there and even a cigar. The analogs taste like ash to me now.

Good points made there. Perhaps it is unwise for us lucky ones to relate our experiences to those coming from the high expectations crowd.

I was a pack a day smoker for 17 years, didn't think I would ever quit, bought my pv as an alternative to smoking at work and started, needless to say the analogs sat in my purse and after a few days I didn't want them anymore! This has been great for me so far and I even gave my pack that I was carrying away to a homeless person last week, I realized I didn't need my safety net anymore :) I bought the 510 model and it has been great, I chose this as I felt it was the closest in size to a regular cigarette however even after buying an extra battery I am going to buy the Ego kit as it has longer battery life:) Good luck, What have you got to loose? Nothing but the startup cost of a carton of smokes! In the long run that is not much at all!

Waiting on my eGo from PureSmoker - took advantage of the reduced pricing. Hoping to have similar experience as cyberwolf and mom_life_love and end up giving away or just leaving alone the carton and a half of Marlboro's that are in the cabinet.

Good choice, Keefer. I have had my eGo for a little over a week now and it's GREAT. I also have a Joye 510 and sometimes I actually prefer that....but the eGo is really the way to go. Get some good juice and you will be amazed......
