Hey, I'm a non-smoker and I started vaping recently. I was just curious as to whether or not it's ok for a non-smoker to start vaping. I'm 18 and I enjoy smoking, and I feel like this is the healthier alternative. Eventually I'm gonna buy zero nicotine e-cigs. I'm currently using those crappy gas station economy e-cigs. Thanks in advance for anyone who replies.

Hey Traceur, welcome to ECF. If smoking is not a habit, I wouldn't use ecigs as a nicotine addiction is less than fun to try to break but at least you are wanting to go to the zero nicotine ecigs so to each his own. My sister-in-law uses the Blu ecig she bought from Walgreens and uses it once in awhile as she is a social smoker. It has kept her off the real things, so I am glad she is using it for her sake instead of making the dreaded switch. Whatever you choose, we are here to help anyway we can by ways of knowledge and support. Take care.

Heyas Traceur,

Like you said, you're 18. You can do whatever you like, and don't need permission from anyone here certainly.

But, like others have said, nicotine is incredibly addictive, so I'd definately suggest sticking with no-nic juice. If you feel that vaping is enjoyable, and if it keeps you from the occaisional analog that you now enjoy (if I understood your post correctly) then more power to you!

After all, I'm here because I started smoking analogs knowing WELL in advance that it was just as extraordinarily health destroying as it was addictive. And then didn't want/was unable to give up my addiction completely. So I definitely have no moral high ground to advise you from :p

Oh, and welcome to the ecf! :)

Cigarettes are incredibly addictive. The cig companies make damn sure of that by adding all kinds of extra chemicals to make their cigs more addictive and thus guarantee higher profits.

Nicotine has some beneficial aspects, so please read all you can about this and make your own decision. CASAA.org is a good source for unbiassed and truthful information.

If you are an adult, you are free to enjoy vaping, just like the other members here at ECF. Vaping or smoke-free tobacco is a much healthier alternative to smoking.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on choosing vaping over smoking. You are considered an adult and can make your own decisions. Use zero nic juice or or some with nic. It's your choice if you want to play around with addiction. IMO e-cigs are less addictive then cigarettes. Big Tobacco pumps so many chemicals into thier product to hook you and keep you there.

I knew when I started smoking that they were addictive. Zero nic is the best choice for you, but don't let anyone bully you into thinking that is your only choice.

As everyone above has said. You are the adult in this and only YOU can choose. But if I were you, don't bother with the nicotine. just choose between the huge array of flavors and vape your hear out!!!!

When I finally wean my self from the nasty nic, i will probs still vape the 0mg because I enjoy it. I dont see the point in the nic so as soon as I am able and have worked my way down from 36mg to 24mg to 18 then 12 then 8 then 0 the better =) and cheaper!

Welcome anyways and I hope you enjoy the vaping experience!

The addictive power of nicotine is such that most of us are hooked LONG before we realize it. I really think that one of the key psychological elements in early addiction is the fact that cigarettes taste so awful. We think, "No WAY *I* could ever get to a point where I NEED this." In that regard, e-cigs may alter nicotine dependency's psychological profile. Blueberry e-juice at 24mg is so freaking great, I just might lower the nic so I can vape it MORE without my ears ringing from nic overdose.

I also think the whole "peer-pressure" thing is a red-herring, especially these days when to smoke cigarettes has a decidedly anti-social impact on smokers. Conversely, EVERYBODY wants to know what strange and wonderful gizmo I'm sucking on.

After one such description, my friends 17 year old son summarized, "So, it's like a yummy high-tech cigarette that might not screw you up as much as the old-fashioned yucky-stinking kind?"

Yup, that's pretty much it.
