The only time I bought cigarettes at CVS was because I was near one when I ran out. Before they bought the strip mall, up the street (which is now a vacant eyesore because the town won't let them build a Super CVS, and they're being spoiled brats about it), I used to get my smokes at the convenience store there.

OK, this forum is full of ex-smokers. Anyone who regularly bought their smokes at CVS (or any drug store) please raise your hand. Anyone, anyone, Bueller. Yeah, that's what I thought.
When I used to live in a apartment building that was across the street from a CVS, I would buy cigarettes there all the time. Not because I like CVS, just because it was there. If they didn't have them, I would have walked an extra block to the 7-11. Again, this has nothing to do with my preference for 7-11, although they do have better snacks. But I would always find a way. It would be exactly the same if my favorite vaping website stopped selling e-juice. I would just get my juice somewhere else.

CVS is just trying to save face. Ever since they announced they would no longer be selling cigarettes, their profits have dropped. They believed increased prescription sales would make up for lost sales from cigarettes. It hasn't happened. CVS is just trying to put positive spin on their poor decision.
i have bought cigs there and Walgreen's across the street.
Walgreen's is doing very well. every smoker that could switched
their prescriptions there for the convenience of one stop shopping.

Did people actually buy cigarettes in CVS? I can't say I ever did, unless I was buying a birthday card or something. I've never been a drug store customer though.
Selection was awesome. My favorite cigs camel wide filter were the always on sale there and right before they stopped selling cigs they were on fire sale to get rid of them. You could buy benson in hedges for like 3.70 when normally they are 6 or 7 bucks

Raises hand... They used to have the best price on my pall malls.

That one must be in another state... here they only carry beer and cheap wine...
That's Texas. The TABC is one of the most backwards agencies in the country. You can drink, but if you drink in a restaurant or bar you have to have a "membership" so big brother can track your drinking habits. You can buy beer & wine anywhere, but can only buy liquor in a "liquor store". You can't buy any alcohol in a bar or restaurant before noon any day of the week. You can order liquor in a bar on Sunday, but the "liquor stores" can't operate that day, just the beer stores, so you have to stock up on Saturday for football games. Now THAT deserves a facepalm.

Yep i bought nearly all my cigs at CVS before i switched a few years ago, they always had the best prices (aside from Tobacco shops).

I wonder how much they considered the ancillary sales generated by selling cigarettes, ie the people who came in for cigs but also left with a soda, some milk, booze, etc. Those extra impulse sales are the same reason all the CVS's/Walgreens always have milk $.60-.$99 cheaper than the grocery store, if they get ya in for that you're bound to need/see something else.

Those lost sales have to be a decent chunk of change, in addition to the couple billion that dropping cigs cut out of their revenue numbers.

There is one CVS in particular that I'm curious about. It's on the strip in Las Vegas. Sort of close to the Venetian. They were the prime spot for cigarettes (for everyone it seemed) to avoid the prices in the Venetian/Palazzo - like in a line of 20 people only one wasn't buying cigarettes.

I wonder how their sales are going? Lol

That reminds of the bad taste this whole thing left in my mouth. If they were so concerned about the customer's health. They would also get rid of the aisle after aisle of candy.

I've also noticed the price of snacks and candy at CVS has gone up about 20% since they stopped selling cigs. And the ol' lady's hair color went up 30%. They are trying to get back their billions, but I guess they are falling WAY short.
