I'm having a interesting problem with my dad. Just recently, he complains about the smell of my vape. Now, I haven't changed flavors or anything. So I don't get how it can bother him so much. He will be upstairs, on the other side of the house, and I'm downstairs in my room, with the vents closed, and windows open, and he claims it's 'stuffing him up'. I think it's mostly in his head because I did a test. I vaped upstairs one day when he wasn't home, but I knew he'd be home soon, and he didn't notice. He also claims he 'smells my vape' when I just get home, even when I havent vaped for a good long whilenough or in the house at all. So I'm looking into buying myself an air purifier. Any recommendations on one that will reduce any haze AND smell?

And please none of this 'his house, his rules' business. My sister and I share the basement apartment, and pay our own way. I respect his wishes and keep it behind closed doors for him. And we have not once complained about his smells. Smells of the herbal kind that can be very pungent and offensive at times, if you catch my drift. Or the cig smells that waft around the house from my mother smoking outside all the time. I'm just looking for a way to stop his complaining without having to go outside all the time. I live in Canada, most of the year it's way too cold to vape outside.

I have one of those fancy air purifiers which has a display which changes color depending on what it thinks the quality of air going into it is. Most times it is "Blue" (good) however just a few puffs on one of my vaporizers will turn that color to Orange (not so good) to RED (not at all good). It takes ~5min for the vapor to completely clear and the display return to Blue.
My SO is actually allergic to PG so I have to vape %100VG so as to not bother her so much. Her throat starts closing up and her exposed skin starts to show a rash if she is exposed to PG.

Just to say some folks actually are allergic to our vapor.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll have to look into all that's been mentioned. Personally I think he's just nuts as I've been vaping indoors for 2 years now and it's only bothering him the past few months (since he cut down on his smoke.. hmm.. coincidence?). Mom suggested an air purifier so it's worth a shot. Worse comes to worse the house won't smell like cig smoke and dog .... anymore

I had a girlfriend like that. She vaped also, but would complain about my vape. So I cleaned everything up and vaped pure VG, no nic, no flavor. She still complained, then blew her nasty fruit menthol in my face. (Note that I never complained about hers unless she fogged me in the face.) Didn't matter, she was just a whiner (about anything and everything). I then left the relationship for good.

With all of the bad press about vaping its a psychological thing.

Get your dad as a Christmas present either a Hepa air filter or an ionizer that generates loads of Negative Ions.

True, but if they're in a separate part of the house, how would anyone know they're vaping at the time?
Maestro he KNOWS she Vapes. She could stop vaping a month and he would still complain. Its a psycholocical issue.

The best way to deal with his psycho somatic caused congestion is to play along and get an air filter to soothe his mind.

Thats what happens when the news media keeps telling lies like

    Vaping causes popcorn lung
    Vaping creates formaldehyde
    Vaping is worse than smoking.
Having a news report almost every time a battery explodes
    Etc.

I say play along with his delusion so he has nothing to complain against.

Flavors do really carry and scents can be very irritating if persistent. If he can pick out specific vape smell, he can blame any breathing problems on it. One could try eliminating, one at a time, flavor, PG, VG for actual physical issues but the flavor is the biggest for even sensing its presence. For true psychological, could try seeing if he complains even if you abstain without saying anything. But complaining when you walk in could be a smell too. When I vape marshmallow it explodes off me in the shower.

    Further renforce his delusions?
He has those delusions whether you like it or not.

The OP has two ways to deal with those delusions.

    1. Play along with his psycho somatic ailment.

    2. Sit him down and give him an education. Possibly making hin angry enough to order her out of his house.

Older people get set in their ways and reacts badly when their beliefs are challenged. I know this from experience!

The trait of being closed minded knows no age.

    You forgot the 3rd.

Get treatment for the delusion. That's what normal people do for delusions.

It's one thing to indulge a child's imaginary friend. But you don't with adults (barring other issues).

I once worked in a lab where we would periodically test monomers, a very smelly substance. One of the lab guys would burst into fits of coughing and gagging from it. We suspected he was just lazy and was avoiding work. So we filled a container with water, put a monomer label on it, and opened it near him. You can picture the result. BUSTED!!!

    Eventually that ceases to work.

Then you're just pandering to the impossible and minus the dough and sanity you spent doing so.

Don't ask how I know this.

Suffice it to say it's on a personal and professional level.
