I noticed todat a dark circle forming around the bottom of one of my 18650 batteries. Almost looks like it got wet under the casing, but in all honesty I have no idea why it is there, pretty sure it didn't get wet at any time. Being new I would rather side on the side of caution. Any ideas to what could cause this?

I really don't have any idea why this would happen and I've never seen this before but it sounds like the battery is getting too hot. It could be a defective battery. You didn't say what kind of battery, protected or IMR so I'm guessing (again) that it is a protected battery that isn't protecting. In any case I'd chuck it.

I'm not really sure what you mean by bottom either. Do you mean around the outside, or that there's a ring on the negative terminal of your battery?

If it's the former, you should probably discard the battery and get new ones.

If it's the latter, then most likely it's just the soot that builds up where the two metals are connecting and conducting electricity. If you can rub it off fairly easily with your finger, it's just soot and nothing to be concerned about. If it's driving you crazy, you can put some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip or cotton ball and wipe it off.
