Day 3 quitting - almost fell in - stupidity saved me.

Hi all, Sorry to post randomly, but as I haven't told anyone I am quitting this is my only outlet/therapy ;-)
Yesterday as day 3 off cigs, which I have found the toughest in the past. Nowhere near as tough as previous tries, I have to say. But a really high-stress day in terms of work. At 8pm I thought I was safe, but then a major work-related issue came up (I try not to work evenings, but major deadline looming). A real crisis and the potential to lose one of my biggest and oldest clients due to a team-member's lack of care. Very, very stressed and upset.

So what do I do: grab a handful of money and head downstairs to buy cigs, thinking there is NO way I can get through a late night working without it. I get to the 7eleven and realise I grabbed the wrong notes and there isn't enough for a pack. Hahaha. And guess what - by the time I make it upstairs again it seems pointless and I don't feel the urge to smoke anymore. Ended up going for a quick run on the threadmill instead.

What a revelation - it really, really is about waiting out the urge or distract myself for the 5-15 minutes it takes.

Today will be the first time I get to experience a major benefit of quitting: I have a 17 hour flight ahead of me with a 3 hour stopover in Bangkok. Not having to deal with the disgusting smoking room there and getting on the plane reeking will be delightful (I am sure to my fellow travellers, too). I'll just to a bit of vaping in the lounge bathroom methinks.

I am still not entirely confident I can keep it up when going out with smoking friends and family this weekend, but day 4 - bring it on!

Congrats! I know how tough it is having friends around that still smoke. keep your vape handy and push on through! one thing I'v noticed, when you have a big fancy rig, it becomes a conversation piece, and you feel cooler than the rest of the people holding their little analogs! could be just an ego thing for me(pun not intended), but 2 years sticky free for me! vape on!

Hi @Eryger and congrats on the journey. It really does get easier and the "I have to grab a cig" urges get less over time. One of the biggest secrets to success is to have a back up vape available. You hit the nail on the head with waiting out the urge, they do pass. Life happens (like going out with smoking friends) and vape will help you through it.

Good luck.

Lucky break with not having the money to buy cigs :)
Don't beat yourself up is my suggestion. If you keep with it, you'll get there even if you do fall victim to the occasional analog.
Do make sure you have a good vape rig that really works for you and satisfies you. Make sure you nic level is enough.
Keep on keepin' on and good luck on your travels.
Hope you saved that biggest and oldest client.

Congrats and welcome. There is nothing to be ashamed of wanting a cig. We've all been in that moment, and many of us have fell victim to it. It's no big deal. You just have to keep in mind that the urge will pass, and stress has a very mysterious way of blacking out that thought. No doubt there will be many more of these scenarios along the way. Some you may pull through, others you may not. And if your like me, after you put that cig out you'll be thinking... Why did I just do that? A backup vape is extremely important. There has been many times I been out with friends, or camping or fishing or drinking etc and my coil went or I ran out of juice or bat dies etc and with no backup vape and your brain still telling your body you need nic, opting for a cig. It gets easier as you go, and you've got a lot of people here that got your back.;)

You people really are fantastic! I seem to be surrounded by 3 types of people:
- non-smokers who don't get it, so can't understand why vaping is better and don't appreciate what a major step it is to switch (although to be fair one is appreciative of the lack of smell)
- party smokers who are annoyed as they used to rely on me to be their excuse to light up
- smokers who are a bit passive-aggressive about my switching.

So I really appreciate the support. Think I'll need it!

Im not sure about bk, but sng's main smoke room was terrible, I walked in and turned around straight away. The trick is to find one that is hardly used. Terminals that are empty looking is a good sign.

Once you hit a week or so, the urges get notably easier and shorter apart from the rogue urge (I only had 1 in 4 years).

I dont reccomend vaping on a plane, or getting caught. Its pretty embarrassing! Take gum, patches or lozenges as your plan A and try them before you fly so you know what to expect.

Trust me - Singapore Changi is haven of clean air compared to BKK's closed boxes (not to mention that they are also full of pretty dodgy characters heading back from less-than-wholesome holidays in Thailand) . And agree that vaping on planes is a bad idea - relying on Quickmist which is a pretty good NRT variant for urges. Just the idea of getting caught is terrifying. But I reckon the bathroom in the business class lounge should be ok. I use this combo on long-hauls - especially Kuala-Lumpur-Sao Paulo is a killer (27hours plus...)

All of my inlaws smoke like all her family, mom, dad, sisters, cousins and uncles everyone! I drink quite often with them and I'd have to say without vaping I would have never quit smoking, even if I did being around them I bet I would have started up almost right away, be proud of your vape, it's surprising how much extra time you have to do stuff when you don't have to go out for a smoke every time everyone else does lol.

I've actually converted 2 of them to vaping and I'm working on a 3rd now lol.

I actually kept it a secret for about 2 weeks, asked my wife not to tell anyone and when someone asked me to go out I'd say I have a sore throat.

Ever since I am here, I suggested dont count the ones you smoked, count the ones you didnt...
3 days more you will not be able to light a cigarette :) And ask yourself the famous geek "How did I ever smoked this s...t" Go ahead and keep your nic high. I went short trips with a joytech eroll in my pocket 24 mg/ml in the little tank. If in case :)

I got myself an eroll. Thought they tasted a bit plasticky - but I think you are right. Will dig them out again!
