I've been vaping about 2 months now and loving it. Right before I bought my first starter kit I bought a carton of cigarettes.
I've been having one every morning when I first get up with my morning coffee. I figured at that rate the carton would last about 200 days. LOL. This morning I reached for my ecig and forgot to smoke. I've been thinking I'll give the rest of the smokes to a friend I know who smokes but I haven't been able to let them go somehow. I am becoming more confident with my vaping everyday but it has been in the back of my mind that something might go wrong and I'd be left with out any nicotine at all and I'd have the cigarettes to fall back on. Heck I've even had dreams of my ecig being lost. I do have back ups for my back ups but I still feel insecure. I did recently buy a ton of juice and I feel good about that......But somehow I can't help but feel like in the middle of the night the vaping police will come in and confiscate all my vaping equipment LOL. Hopefully some day soon I'll be confident enough to actually give that carton away and relax enough to realize that my vaping is here to stay.

Congratulations Margie! That's a milestone for sure. I know an alcoholic who's been in recovery for 50+ years and still has an unopened bottle of booze in the cupboard. I have a carton in the fridge. I think its pretty common to have an unopened stash for some reason as well as backups for our backups in vape gear/juice/DIY stuff. I'm not sure why the need for a stash is... maybe the one day at a time thing and renewing our commitment each day? Anyway whatever works I always say.

Margie, congrats on the switch and welcome to ECF!

The first week I started vaping I didn't think about it, but by the end of the first week I realized I was down from 40 a day to 6 a day. That was when I knew this was going to work ... and it did. I continued smoking one after each meal for a long time, but when I decided to quit for good there were absolutely no withdrawal symptoms.

You are doing it right. Let the ecigs take most of the cigs away, keep on vaping, and decide later when to abandon the rest. It will happen eventually without fanfare or regret.

That's great news Margie.
As someone who would never think of buying less than a carton or 5lbs of bulk tobacco I know how it goes wanting to have backups.

I did pretty much the same thing one morning and realized how much easier it is to vape than worry about making my RYOs, emptying ashtrays, keeping lighters filled, moving all that crap from one room to another, etc.
The smoking tapers off and then you realize... meh, time to put all the old stuff away ;)

They sure don't sound like equal things to compare. To me....

    Congrats Margie!!!!

Oh no! You forgot? Haha that's awesome. Congrats!

I still have 2 packs in the freezer. I like them there and I'm never tempted.

Congratulations, I bought my 1st Volt Passthrough last year but didn't get much enjoyment from it, left it in the drawer for a year, got some advise from a old vape pro bought me a Volt Spinner, wow what a difference it has made, and with lowering the nicotine ejuice, been using it regularly for last 3 day's, went from 2 packs of analogs a day to 11, gotta still work on the after meals and morning coffee without the yuckies but I hope I will follow in your footsteps and just forget to smoke analogs naturally. Oh by the way, woke up this morning my Spinner was dead, got the old Passthrough out, to my surprise to was stll charger up after a year, who would have thought.

Margie, big congratulations to you!! You actually FORGOT to smoke? LOLOLL! That's wonderful!!

I'm one who probably would have had a cig by now if there was one in the house, even though I rarely have cravings. I smoked for 47 years and honestly made sure I ALWAYS had cigs available - running out was my worst nightmare!! But - when I found the right vaping ecig, finished my existing pack and for the first time ever, did not buy any more. Felt a little anxiety about that at first, but it's been fine.

    Best of luck to you!!!!

I can remember needing to keep some cigarettes around me initially when I first started vaping. They were my security blanket although I wasn't planning on smoking them I wanted them there or I got anxious. It took about 3 months before I was able to get rid of them to friends and was ok with it. This may vary with each person but it can and does happen :). Good luck to you on your vaping journey!! We're here for you!!

I am so happy for you!! Forgetting is the best!! I am coming up on 6 mo of being smoke free and once in a while still get a "cig thought." I have no cigs around for just that reason. So it is really great that some of you can keep the cigarettes some place where you could grab them and just choose not to. I am not sure that would be me!! Although I will say I love vaping and it sure beats smoking by miles, not only in taste, but in cost.
