I chain vape my novas and have no heating issues. I just started using a v1 vmax that I got for free. The only suggestion I have is when was the last time you cleaned the contacts on the vmax and the nova? Perhaps a dry burn. Does your vmax have menu 8? Rms makes a huge difference?
Edit: Oops, you are using cartos, ymmv

just try a different cartomizer, theyre so cheap you can stock up on ones you like. i got a boge f16 a few weeks ago, was getting very little vapor production with the carto that came with it. i changed the carto, and now i get clouds of vapor. just try different cartos until you find the one thatll work best for you

I will certainly try the single coil carts and also try the carts with more than one hole. I live in the Dallas area and we have so many e shops but they all seem to carry smoktech products. I really want some cool looking tanks and tips from bigdaddy but don't wanna spend the money til I find the perfect set up

I'm also using the smoktech cartos, don't know if that's my getting hot issue but its the only carts I have used

I've used both and both can work fine and both can suck. For me, the duals get too hot and shorten the battery life faster. I'm happy with the single coils. But as I said, either can work fine. What I suspect is that because it only has one hole it probably didn't feed quick enough and you've burned the wick nearest the coil. Therefore it doesn't wick as well and overheats. I think I went through 4 cartos before I learned the ins and outs of carto/tanks with proper priming, learning how to use my punch tool to punch a second hole, etc.

Be aware that the Smoktech V max uses an earlier version of PWM and tends to put out a higher voltage than what you actually set. This is pretty common knowledge, and most users have learned to compensate by as much as one volt less to get what your set.

I'd also recommend going with a 2.5 - 3.0 ohm single coil carto if you plan on using higher than standard voltages. You might want to try a pyrex glass tip as they do not transfer heat like acrylic, metal, or ceramic tips will. Glass tips can be on the pricey side though. I like the ones from Hot Vapes and Sagewood Glass.

I've got an article in my blog concerning dual coil vs single coil cartomizers. Scroll down the linked page to find it. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3295-sample-list-vendors-selling-pre-punched-single-coil-cartomizers-cartotanks.html

Yes I'm aware the v max puts out more power. I try and keep that In mind but can't seem to find that "sweet spot" when adjusting the voltage. I will try the glass tips you mentioned as well as other types of cartos. I can deal with what I'm using for now, just can't seem to vape constantly without letting it cool for a min. I'm still new to all this and am determined to get it right. Tomorrow will be 1 month smoke free!!!
