Got my blue shortie in the mail today and was super excited but...put a brand new cappuccino cart on and.....nothing! so I put the cart on a regular auto battery and got tons of vapor! Thought maybe the shortie maybe just needed charged but I put it on the wall charger and the charger light stayed green so I tried the pcc and the red light doesn't light up. So I'm assuming I got a bad one or am I missing something obvious?

Maaron - you might have the same problem that Spectre and I are seeing. Our shorties won't charge. Spectre was saying that he noticed the center post is a little shorter so it might not be making contact with the charger and/or the cartomizer.
It's possible, although apparently these need to be completely charged before using the first time - Mark posted something about it in one of these threads. I have noticed that a couple times I have stuck a really dead XL on the wall charger, and I din't get a red light for a few minutes (I actually went back after 5 minutes, loosened it, then screwed it back in and the light changed.) So you could try that - plug it in, go back and check after 10 or 20 minutes, take it out and put it back in and see if the light changes. If it does, leave it charge for 8 hours. If none of this works, then the batt is probably DOA - contact Steve or Mark, and they will replace it.

I knew you probably went through those steps. Sorry to hear you got a dud! I have one coming in my next order. We both know that Steve will replace it, but I bet you want to play with it Now!!
My dead shortie is a blue one as well. I've done everything you've tried too, no luck. Do this, hold it right next to a regular battery and compare the connectors, specifically the center post. Is the center post on the shorty more recessed than the post on the normal battery? If so, that's probably the problem, as I'm pretty sure that's what's causing the problem with mine.

Have you tried more than one cart on the battery you are using? I found the same thing that they will not charge until they are used a bit. See if you can get anything with a different cart and also make sure that they holes in the battery go all the way through. I thought I had a couple of duds as well, but once you get them going they can get some nice vapor going.

yea I have tried three carts on my shortie and I can't get it to so anything
I also noticed that in your thread about them you said the draw was more stiff on the shorties but with a cart on mine its like sucking through a garden hose!lol there is no resistance at all....not sure if that has something to do with the problem??I've tried multiple carts. Every cart works fine on every other battery except the short. Holes go all the way through, I get plenty of airflow, I'm pretty sure it's the recessed center post not contacting the carts or charger. I'll attach a picture comparing it to another battery. It's a little blurry, stupid camera kept focusing on my fingers instead of the battery.
After fidgeting with the one I have, I think it's charging. Odd thing is that the LED cherry is lit up when it's charging in the USB charger. The other shorty I have is charging in my PCC and its LED cherry is not lit up. I hope the one in USB charger with LED lit up isn't going to be a problem.
edit: Seeing the picture above, I compared my regular VK and the shortie. My shortie's post is recessed more just like the picture above. I think what's happening for me is that I have to show the shortie all the way into the USB charger and the male prong might be touching the sensor inside the shortie so it's turning on. Thoughts?

I experience the same thing with mine. Sometimes they light up, sometimes they don't. Whatever the case you guys can count on the fact that we will take care of any issues you guys are having with the batteries. I have been using the shorties exclusively since we got them and once they are broken in they are pretty fantastic.
Thanks Mark. The LED being on for 8 hours isn't going to burn thru the plastic end cap is it? If it's charging and there's no fear of melt-down, then I'm ok with that. =)
No it won't burn through the end cap, these are very low voltage LED's.
OK I just found a cart that would not work on a shortie. If you guys could try this and let me know if it works for you. The carto and the battery were not making contact so I took the carto and popped up the center post just a tad and it works great. I know this is not a perfect solution and we will get it figured out for you, but in the meantime this may work for you. Just carefully pop up the center post on the carto (with a paper clip perhaps), and try it out. The staple mod may work for this as well.

Just let me know what would be the easiest for you! After playing around with it some more, I'm almost positive the post isn't making contact with the chargers or the carts. Using wires, I can connect the battery to the pcc and trigger the led on the battery to flash and the pcc light to turn red indicating charging, but when I screw it into the pcc nothing.
Also, when I screw on a cart to the battery, I get no resistance at all up until it's fully on there and won't go any farther, unlike other batteries, when after a couple turns it gets a little tough but you can still turn it a little bit; that resistance you usually get I think is the two posts from the battery and the cart meeting.

Did you guys read my last post about raising the connector on the cartomizer. This may work for you in the short term until we can get the issue resolved for you.
