Hi! I’ve been vaping for over 3 years now and proud to be tobacco free. Did anyone else read today’s “Dear Abby” column? I’m furious! In short, a reader was asking about the possibility of getting harmful secondhand vaping-smoke from her co-workers. Her response? “You don’t have anything to worry about, but your co-workers may. In 2009, the FDA announced the findings from a laboratory analysis that indicated that e-cigs expose users to harmful chemical ingredients, including carcinogens.” I think we need to come together and educate Dear Abby and saturate her column with more enlightened and correct responses!!

Hey, at least she got half of it right, in regards to the writer not being harmed by second hand "vapor". The general public ARE confused. They get all the propaganda from the media, FDA, etc. and they don't spend hours a day on a forum learning all the latest and greatest about the "industry". Responses to this outdated information should be calm and rational and should approach the subject kindly. The first reaction shouldn't be an all-caps tirade, rather a reasoned response such as...."Did you know the study done by the FDA back in 2009 has been debunked and should have it's own section on snopes" (add a little obvious humor to let others know you are trying to inform not preach).

We all have subjects we think we know or understand until someone points out differently. Best of luck to all and remember - Keep CALM and vape!

Dear Abby referenced a 4 year old FDA finding. That's the problem, right there..

As far as random comments by people of limited influence go, it wasn't that bad. The title of this thread is a bit of an overreaction IMHO, she said they were harmless to others and pointed out that the FDA found some evidence of carcinogens in some ecigs when they did a study, but that the reader shouldn't be concerned with "second hand vapor." We all know the FDA study was crap, but many who don't follow all things vapor wouldn't.

Abbey missed the point completely. She made it sound like, while there is no harm in second hand vapor, the people vaping had a real reason to be concerned (trace amounts of carcinogens). Wouldn't a larger health concern be for continuing to smoke tobacco. She should have congratulated the office workers who quit smoking and now enjoy a much safer alternative.... Vaping! I expect she will get some backlash from the vaping community, lets hope she has the integrity to admit her error, or at least present a balanced view.

Eeeek! That's not cool.

Sounds like "Dear Abby" (along with other media outlets) has been hijacked by Big Tobacco as well. The propaganda machine is rolling right along as usual. Problem is.....many will accept it as truth without even a second guess!

Not Big Tobacco, its Big Pharma. BT is totally getting into the ecig business. Blu was recently purchased by Lorrilard, and has been advertising aggressively for vaping recently. ITs BP that is truly threatened, as well as those that benefit from cigarette taxes.
