OK,
I believe I have finally decided on the ithaka and either a GP (if it becomes available anytime soon) or a Poldiac. What else do I need? What kind of battery? How many batteries? What kind of wicks? What extra parts do I need? Want to make sure I purchase everything necessary to allow me to vape for atleast a couple months.

Jeesh, this is a loaded post. Do you already have a mod that takes 18*** batteries? You might want to check out something like a VV/VW mod first. Even if you don't necessarily like VV or VW, the safety features they provide, really are a great thing when you begin building your own RBAs. I have the Ithaka clone by Rainbow Heaven and it is permanently attached to my Sigelei Zmax. The atty itself gives off so much vapor and flavor at 1.7 ohms and 6.5 watts, that I haven't even considered firing it on one of my mechs.

As far as batteries go, AW IMRs are pretty much the golden standard. Efest is another one that is pretty common. Nowadays, there are also 'hybrid' batteries being sold. These are CGR and NCR batts. There are other hybrids, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

With RBAs like the Ithaka, your choice of wick depends on personal preference. 3mm silica is what is meant for the Ithaka ( or a clone). I have also used 2mm Ekowool with good results. Some people like cotton or ceramic too.

I would seriously recommend getting a VV/VW device, but if you are dead set on a mech, at least get one of those safety fuses to put on the end of your battery. Most of the VV/VW APVs will tell you the resistance of your atty. otherwise, you will need to get a multimeter to check the resistance of your RBA. You should never fire an RBA without knowing the resistance first.

with the ithaka you will need resistance and non resistance wire, unless you buy ready made wires. some 2 or 3 mm silica and not required but a couple extra ceramics just in case.

for the mod:
the batteries will depend on the size you order the poldiac comes in 3 sizes but in 18650 mode- some high drain (10Amp) 18650 batteries, AW 2000Mah and Panasonic 2250mah and 2900mah are my go to batteries.. at least two so one is running while one is charging. and maybe a fuse if you want to feel safer.

really thats it. its just that simple.

Thank You everyone for your help! I am sure that once I have everything in front of me I won't have a problem with anything considering I have an engineering background. Just want to make sure that everything is purchased and I won't be missing anything.

What would be a good example of a VV/VW device?

Pretty broad spread really. From a low of around $35 for a iTaste 3.0 (which is actually a pretty darn nice little self-contained mod) to... gee, I don't know what the most expensive VV-VW is, a SvoeMesto Semovar, or perhaps a Cyborg. Probably the Semovar.
There might be something out there with a DNA20 or Nivel chip in it that's made out of solid gold or some such idiocy, but I won't count that.

There are several nice tube and box VV-VW mods in the $60 ~ $120 price range, so you won't have too much difficulty finding something that suits your needs.

I agree that it might be a good idea to get a nice VV-VW first... then, after a little familiarity, start looking at mechs again.
You can always drop a Kick, Kick 2, Kick clone (how many times can I say Kick... looks like 4 :) ) or Crown in a mech and turn it into a VW mod. It's a little less convenient than a regular VV-VW, but you get the cool mech form factor on the outside with the "set it and forget it" of a VW on the inside.
Actually, a 18500 mech with a Kick or Crown with a nice carto tank, or a Kayfun or Russian 91% topper is a pretty neat rig.

4AM... what the hell am I doin' up?
