Alcohol can be bad for you but the FDA allows it.
Cigarettes are bad for you but the FDA allows it (without listing the 4,000 ingredients)
Big Pharma puts out medications that 'may' help you but have 2 pages of side effects that will make you want to drink and smoke.
So I can, without being hassled by the FDA, buy alcohol to wash down my medications and then drive my car to go buy cigarettes. (While cleaning my Springfield XD)

Makes me want to buy an island.[emoji3]

I heard a news loop about the Navy Ban this evening.
Navy spokesman mentioned Burns & Disfigurement as the reason. Will be a delay so Sailors can get un-addicted.

No mention of Ordinance..

Burns & Disfigurement ... yeah, have to keep them sailors intact till the next torpedo or explosives-laden zodiac slams into the ship's hull...then there'll be plenty of burns & disfigurements...

Ban e-cigs? Ban wars too, then. Could reduce your burn & disfigurement quota very drastically..

Sorry, this is the same ( rather sick imho ) reasoning along the lets-hurry-the-executions-due-to-expiry-date-of-the- poison.

Anyone in armed services anywhere on the globe lays his/her .... on the line. Standing an above-average chance of coming back burned, disfigured or not at all....

Cut them some slack, willya ?

It's a tough call. It's obviously better for the sailors than smoking, but if you've got people not being responsible with potentially very dangerous devices in close quarters, I can see where the navy would want to err on the side of caution.
One thing I can tell you is that the marines seem to be taking to vaping big time.

I live in San Diego, about 10 miles from Camp Pendleton.
There are a lot of vape shops here, and there are a LOT of marines in them.

I would imagine it's probably true for the Navy as well.
But I'd have to live further south to see all the Navy guys in their local shops.
:)

I definitely hope they figure something out. I assume they're happy with servicemen not smoking, but there are "special" considerations when it comes to the military. They also don't really have to be fair, so I'm hoping there are vaping advocates within the military that have some influence on the decisions.

For the military, you've got to give it another name...
not e-cig, not vape..
And you need to extol it's value in combat situations.

Like outnumbered and opposing troops advancing on your position?
Blow a few huge clouds, muck up their aim, shift position, keep fightin :)

So pack it in a camo-style ammo box , increase the price 50 fold and sell as:

Defensive smoke/fog generator, man-portable

:D

Considering all branches treat vaping the same as smoking, they've got a long way to go.

Giving away your location in that manner is foolhardy and puts you at risk. First individual caught doing that on the front lines would most likely be shot by their own comrades. And deservedly so.

I don't think that falls under the Military Code of Conduct.

Just say'n.

Fogging is used when u pulling fire - means they've got a bead on you already and it's high time to beat it...

Vapes with their covered coils are likely to generate less of a heat signature than a regular cigarette.

Anyway - would be nice to have a vape without getting shot at by anyone or even getting scoffed at by anyone.

Armed services or civilian - got a ways to go yet, but we're getting there:
No hard numbers, just a very subjective impression on my part, it does appear that the frothing-at-the-mouth hate pieces in the media became less frequent.
FDA's regs haven't gone away yet though...
