Well here goes nothing im new here and im going to make this as good as I can.

When I set off on my journey of vaping I knew I wanted to quit smoking and when I started vaping I knew I wanted nicotine but I wanted to decrease the levels as I went. Well after vaping for a little over two months and with out going back to analog Im faced with a question I cant answer and thats when do you know you are ready to decrease that nicotine level. Is it something you just do? Like after going through a 30 ml of liquid in 18mg buy the next one in a 12 mg or what?

I want to hear what you guys say about doing it yourself and how you guys went about cutting back.

Thanks for helping me out in advance and Im ready to get more involved in the EFC community.

Dylan.

I knew I could cut down when I stopped going to bed clutching my PV like a baby with his pacifier. When I could just set it on the nightstand and go to sleep, then I lowered it a little. I started at 36 mg, eventually got down to 6, finally settled at 15. I just dont worry about nic intake anymore. The massive amounts of caffeine I consume is probably worse for me than the nic.

I was a 40 year chain smoker. I started at 24mg. After 2 months or so, I noticed some anxiety, light headedness, sleeplessness, so I cut back. Now, after 5 months I've settled at 7-9mg. My point is, after getting over withdrawal symptoms, your body will help you. If you have lots of cravings, you need more nic. If you are jittery and light headed, you need less.

As I was cutting back, I had several juices with different nic levels, so I just mixed and experimented until I found the right balance.

Also, your lifestyle will have some influence. If you work at a job were you have smoke breaks, you may need higher nic. If you can vape to your heart's content, lower nic might be best.

I've been looking for an answer to this exact question myself. What I've come to realize is that the reason there is no specific answer to this question is that the answer really is that it depends on when you are ready to step it down yourself. I've seen people on here state that they were able to get down to 6 mg of nic after a few months to people who state that they vaped 24 mg for a year or 2 before they were ready to step it down to 18 mg.

I've been vaping for a month now. I was a pack a day smoker for 17 years and started at 12 mg right out the gate. It was challenging, but I wanted to lower my nic intake so I was committed to see it through. I did have a few cigs after a couple of weeks vaping, but haven't had one or wanted one since. I am planning on eventually cutting nic completely out, but I'm not going to rush it.

9 months of mostly 24mg and if I'm chain vaping I get the signs of too much nicotine.

So now I'm blending mostly 18mg. Make a 24mg batch for when I'm hitting the beer.

Really had no intention of cutting back but it happened on its own. If I keep cutting it down it'll just make my nicotine bases last longer.

You can drop whenever you feel ready, and go as far as you're comfortable.

How's that for specific? :)

Taking too large a jump at once might be noticeable or uncomfortable for you, so taking a small step might be a good idea. It depends on how you react, which you won't know until you try it.

In my case, I DIY my own liquids, so I started at 22 mg/ml. After three months, I dropped that to 20 mg/ml (in December). My next mix is 18 mg, and I should start that in early February. Then I'll go to 16.

2 mg/ml is extremely slow and gentle. Lots of people drop 6 mg/ml in a single step and do fine.

If you find you can't, you could mix your 12 mg and 18 mg liquids together to make 15 mg (I'd use the same flavor, personally) and vape that until you're comfortable, then drop to 12.

I started vaping in October 2012. The first juice I got was 12mg, and it just didn't "hit the spot", so I went out and got small bottle fo 24mg at a local shop--it was TOO much. So like Goldilocks, I settled on 18mg as "just right"... ;-)

I've been vaping 18mg since the begining of November. My most recent orders with AiV and HHV were places for 12mg. We shall see if it works for me. I think it will, and I'm going to try and reduce my nic intake like this over the next few months. Every two or three orders, I'll lower my nic level, until I find a level that I just can't abide.

I have no intent on giving up nic completely, and I don't intend to stop vaping. But I would like to get my nic level down a little...

That's why I joined this community, very good answers from everyone! I feel like after reading everyone's answers I've found what I want to do. I don't want to quit vaping because I enjoy exploring different flavors and such but I want to lower my nic level so it will be less throat hit and more chasing that perfect flavor. So I think what's best is try mixing a 18 with a 12 and do that for a while then just cut out the 18 and stay at 12.

Again thanks for all of the input helped answer the questions I had in my head floating around.

I started at 36 mg 2yr 3mo ago and cut it in half within a month stayed with 18 for a couple months drooped down again to 6 for about a year now for the last year I have been at 3mg and maybe will go to 0 but I am not going to rush it as long as I don't want an analog I am happy. I was a 2 pad 45 year smoker so I am really happy with where I am at today. Just experiment and you will find your time.

I was a 1.5pad for 15yrs and started vaping a month ago at 18mg. By the 2nd day I was analog free. Luckily I can vape all I want at home (once the kid is asleep, I don't want him to see it like he never saw me smoke) and at work. Because of that I quickly stepped down to 12mg and the other day stepped down to 6mg. Your body will let you know when you're ready.

Ten years ago I quit smoking for 11 months using the patch. The drop downs were from 21mg, to 14mg, to 7mg. That was rough each time and made for a couple of miserable days. So I'm planning on using baby steps to start cutting back. I'm on 24mg right now, so I'm going to get an 18mg of the same flavor and mix them together. That will drop me down to 21mg, I figure that difference is so slight I won't even notice it. After a few weeks, I'll drop down to 18mg, and continue dropping down until I get to between 8-12mg and stay there. That's my plan anyway, but you know how plans end up going sometimes.

I'm doing it without intention... seriously. I started on 24mg 3 months ago and have been fine with it; however, I placed an order with Mt. Baker and they sent a free sample of Udderly Nuts 12mg and I liked it and used it for a couple days not considering nic level. Then the proverbial light bulb glowed over my head, and I thought, "why not try 18mg?" So, that's where I'm at right now... not pushing it or setting deadlines, just going with the flow at is were.
