My server started throwing Blue Screens at me... I've been going through and trying to get all the drivers updated... stupid thing even throws blue screens when I'm doing that. I'm all grrrrr-y about it.
Sales are okay... no new orders in the past 24 hours, though... that always makes me antsy...
Such a versatile thread, no?
Ewww, I really hate computer problems, sorry to hear about that:(
Hope you got it all sorted out now ...no new orders? Eeee!

    Versatile = interesting right? :)

Hey Deej, If software doesn't do it you could try hardware. I assume you're at least a little mechanically inclined. An old fix that sometimes helped me out was removing the circuit boards from the motherboard and cleaning the edge connectors and board slots with alcohol. I'd probably start with the memory, if that doesn't do it then move on to any other discreet cards in the system.

Can be helpful if the hardware is older and has been in service a while. Though I have seen brand new systems fail right out of the box as well, due to shipping vibrations working the connections loose to the point of being intermittent. For newer you can try reseating, older clean & reseat.

Oh and make sure your fans are running and the systems not getting too hot. Check the case vents and clean if needed.

seems to be running normally now...

somewhere along the line, the wrong vid drivers got installed (I think). Once I yanked the video card and saw that it was a Radeon HD 4xxx instead of a 5xxx, things went much smoother.

Dunno why Sys Properties was calling it a 5xxx... unless somehow I clicked the wrong link lo these many years ago. :p

Also explains why I couldn't for the life of me remember upgrading the card in that system.

Everything dusted... fans running... plugs/cards reseated.

I love this case... it has MASSIVE fans in it... they spin nice and slow and QUIET while still moving a ton of air through the case. If only I could get a huge cpu fan... :p

This is the case I built the thing in...

    HAF 932 - Cooler Master

(not using liquid cooling... always wanted to try, though...)

I was looking at those cases when I was considering building my next "Behemoth" LOL. But the last 2 times I just ended up buying a supercharged gaming laptop instead and using it as a desktop with all external peripherals like a gaming keyboard & mouse, external 5.1 sound, and HDMI flatscreen monitor.

Keep thinking that having all the same power in a portable (if need be) system could come in handy some day. But I do miss the versatility and upgradeability of a good homebuilt desktop.

For a laptop it's got a 3gig video card, DirectX 11 compatible with Physx engine, and HDMI 5.1 sound & video out crammed into it. Pretty much all I cared about. With 2 internal drive bays I swapped one over to SSD though I could've set them up in RAID config instead.

heh... in a past life, I was tasked with repairing laptops... since then, I've looked askance at them. I do have one... and a tablet... but I rely on my big-box machines. :)

I've had to repair my share of laptops as well, mostly Dell & HP/Compaq. Not sure when you did it but they may be a lot more serviceable now. I remember some of the earlier IBM's & Dells being a real pain.

It's the large office, high duty printers that I still have nightmares about. 8-o

does anyone rebuild their protank heads? I want to start but want to know what stuff to buy so I have it all when I start. And deej if you don't want me to ask here, that's fine. I just trust you guys!

Other than some small tools like tweezers, tiny pliers, and maybe a metal pick or very small screwdriver, I'd go with some 3mm silica wick or some ekowool and some NiChrome wire 28 or 30 gauge.

This stuff is supposed to be excellent. I've got some on order but haven't tried it yet. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TWIK-Ekowoo...-hybrid-wick-for-atomizer-build-/221245687265

Don't let the price scare you. He sets it that high when he's behind on orders. Give it a day or two and it will be back down to $4.99.

Yeah the size affects the resistance. Just for example lets say it takes 1 inch of wire to make your coil. A thinner (higher gauge) wire would have more resistance in that 1 inch than a thicker wire.

The thinner the wire = the higher the gauge number and higher resistance.

If you wanted a lower resisitance you'd go with a thicker wire (lower gauge number).

There are charts on the web that explain exactly what resistance you can expect. but most people start off at around 28 gauge and add or remove a coil turn (wrap) to adjust the resisitance.

    Morning Afternoon Clowder! :D

Just started rebuilding PT heads myself. I use a 3mm silica wick and 30 gauge kanthal wire, wrapped 5-6 times. Usually gets me about 1.3-1.5Ω resistance, which doesn't matter too terribly much as most of my devices are Variable Wattage, set at 8 watts typically. So my goal is a minimum of 1.2Ω (just my personal comfort level :D ).

Note that these are the first successful builds I've had. I gave up on RBA's awhile back (I have little patience, lol), and didn't think about it again when PT's came out. Dusty (another mod) convinced me to try it w/the PT heads, and the first didn't work.... well I found out it was touching the "chimney"... Re-did it, and VOILA! :)

So a little patience, plus used a trick he showed me with wrapping it on an extended paper clip (wick & all), and now it's so easy and I'm done in minutes. :)
