Hey Poeia! I'm sure there are prob better out there but I'm still in love with my Igo-L's.
Hey Poeia! I'm sure there are prob better out there but I'm still in love with my Igo-L's.
The most important question is -- are they easy enough for someone with no mechanical skills? I figure I'll drop about half the wire on the floor where it will hide amongst the birdseed, never to be seen again.
Other than a little vaping shopping spree (juice and maybe some hardware), not really. Going out to dinner later in the week.
So, for me, the next thing after saying I don't see why someone would want xxx, is that I buy it. Any suggestions for a Dripping RBA, anyone? The big advantage, in my mind is that I like low voltage with high resistance. I don't care about throat hit and I have a heavy thumb (which can lead to scorched liquid with things like 1.8v coils.) And I have one of those cute, little voltage meter boxes so I don't have to learn how to use a multimeter.![]()
Micro coils? Huh?
I have until Sunday to make my shopping list. I have to learn the difference between silica and cotton. For the wire, I've already learned that higher gage = thicker = higher resistance. I think I want 200 gage wire.
ETA: And the other RDA I've seen this evening that looks cute is the squid -- mainly because there are no screwdrivers or hex keys to lose.
Ooops. I knew I'd get it backwards. I'll look it up before ordering. The appeal of them for me is to be able to make a 3.8+ coil. I like cool vapor with low throat hit.I just started messing around with the RBAs myself so I only know what I've read and tried.
The only problem with micro coils is that some people get a bit hyper-semantic with the specific size of the coil. I think that it is more about the fact that there are more coils and squeezed together so there is more juice to coil contact. I'm more in the "whatever works well, then do it" crowd.
As for silica vs. cotton, I have been using sterile cotton balls because it is cheap and wicks well. Just make sure that it is sterile or raw unprocessed cotton. The downside to cotton is that it can burn if the wick isn't wet. So just remember to make sure it is wet before you push the button the first time. Silica, I have no clue about. I have some but just haven't used it yet. The squid I don't know about either.
And just an FYI the higher the gauge/resistance = thinner wire. I'm sure that is what you meant and just typed it wrong, just wanted to clear that up in case someone else is reading. I think you would do well with 30 or 32 gauge since you like a higher resistance vape. 30 gauge might be easier for you to work with since it is a bit thicker and a bit less springy because it is thicker.
Like I said though I am still a beginner in the RBA world as well so this is just my opinion from what I have read and tried.![]()

The Squid is a baby Octopus. I like the idea of non-lose-able parts.

@ Poeia
I was looking at the Smoktech Scar. It's been getting great reviews. Seems it could be a little small for my giant hands (being 6'3"), but I like that it's got what appears to be easy to grab thumbscrews instead of those tiny little watch screws. It too can be setup single or dual coil and uses multi wicks like a squid or octopus.
On sale here for $11.99, I think the 15% off code (eom15) is expired. Quantum Vapor SMOK Scar Dual-Coil RDA (Rebuildable Drip Atomizer)
That wick I was posting about before has the best of both worlds. It's got cotton wool inside of a braided silica sleeve. You get the wicking and flavor benefits of cotton while the silica keeps it from getting burnt.

It's just a little something I threw together...

I accidentally mixed some ARC with some LMP.
I have no idea what it tastes like.
