Thanks for the info. No Dutch Chocolate Mint for me Love peppermint, indifferent to menthol, don't really care for spearmint or wintergreen.

Besides, Peppermint Taffy with Chocolate Taffy is soooooo good.

If it is Peppermint, it's definitely not the same as in Deej's Peppermint. Pretty sure it's spearmint, definitely not menthol.

Yesterday, when I couldn't get ice coffee, I learned that hot coffee that already has milk & sweetener in it, when left in the freezer for a couple of hours turns into a delicious coffee slushie. I made a pot of coffee yesterday so I have my ice coffee at my side and a slushie in the freezer for later.

Deej, based on the newest flavor, apparently the Fire Kitty is a slow learner regarding what will be popular with the clowder.

I loooove making iced coffee at home- I prefer more sweetener than most places give by default- bonus points for adding chocolate syrup..mmmmmmmm....haven't tried it slushed-up though, may have to do that

Bunky was diagnosed this morning with an abdominal growth. The doc's convinced it's cancer. Sugical / radiological treatment would cost thousands and has a very low success rate. So I've opted to just buy him a little more time.

They gave him a long acting steroids injection along with some hydration and vitamins. This should have his quality of life back closer to normal within a couple days and possibly even result in some shrinkage. If it works I can go back for more every 2 weeks. This course of treatment has the potential to keep him around a few more months at most, with a reasonable quality of life.

I got him as a feral kitten 9 years ago. I don't see myself repeating the treatment too many times as I don't wish to prolong any suffering.

I think you made the right choice. Unless there's a very high success rate, surgery/radiation is almost cruel for an animal. You can't explain to them why they have to go through that. Far better to give that cutey quality time for the time he has left.

And, based on how calm he looks at being in a carrier, it's hard to believe he was a feral kitten. You must have had unlimited patience and love to have worked such a transformation on him.

I don't usually drink hot beverages. For coffee, I make a full pot and stick it in the fridge. That gives me coffee for several days.
Today I learned that the slushie doesn't always work as well as it did yesterday. The top freezes first so, if you try it, stir it occasionally.

What a beautiful kitty! I'm so sorry that it turned out this way. Sounds liked a good decision though, considering the alternative. My thoughts are with you Trav.

It took a few years to gain his trust, especially after the initial vet visit to get fixed. But he was really coming around over the years and turning into quite a loving and domesticated kitty.

The biggest thing I'll miss is our nightly ritual that sort of just developed over the last year or so. Everynight after "bedtime treats" he'd lay up against me real close while I watched TV and get his belly rubbed while he purred himself to sleep.

Thanks to all for the kind words. It's part of life and thankfully only a small part of having pets. Knowing others can relate is very helpful.

Dunno what I'm gonna do for the other one. She's 14-15 and thought sure she'd be gone before him. I originally took Bunky in to be Emma's playmate so she could get some exercise while I was at work. Though she seems as happy and healthy as a horse, I'm not sure how she'd fare breaking in another kitten.

Hiya Deejsters.....hope you all had a great weekend!!! I took a couple of days off and went out of town It was awesome

Trav, does Emma like TV? If so, that could entertain her while you're at work.

Emma never really seemed to pay much attention to the TV. But Bunky would run away if there were like bright flashes accompanied by loud noises.

I'm actually having 2nd thoughts about a new friend for Emma. I couldn't ask for a better model / trainer. She was so good with Bunky. Friendly, they'd cuddle together and she'd wash him etc, and she'd only be as forcefull as needed when it came to playing or setting boundaries.

Emma is the friendliest cat I've ever known yet she fears nothing and was quite the squirrel hunter, even without front claws. So her previous owners told me. Not sure why they'd let a declawed cat outdoors though. When they'd get up in the morning there would be up to 3 squirrel tails lined up on their patto as if she were keeping score.

She even made friends with the neighbor's pitbull who's head was as big as a basketball. Whenever she heard him running down the steps in the hall, she'd run to the kitchen door to go out on the screened in porch to see him.

Bunky will be the 3rd cat Emma has survived, two being here before her. I couldn't ask for a better way to keep things as good as they've been than to have her break in her own legacy kitty.

Trav, I'm so sorry to hear about Bunkey. I hope the treatments can give him good quality time for a little while longer. Furries leave such a hole when they go. If Emma is up for another cat, then it might be good for her to continue to have a companion too.
