I've only ever been "surprised" once by a cat I brought home. I once got a 2 YO spayed & declawed cat from a cage in the mall where the SPCA had a drive going.

While in the cage it was the freindliest most lovable kitty you could imagine. Once I got her home she didn't really want much to do with anyone, human or feline. It continued on that way pretty much for another 16 years.

That cat just would not die either. It was walking around literally like a skin bag full of dusty air and old bones. I often wondered WTH kept it going. It was the first cat I ever had that I think just died of old age.

I believe Emma is laid back enough to handle whatever comes through the door. The worst case would be if I somehow managed to pick up some "little terror" that would end up driving us both nuts. But that thought also crossed my mind more than once early on after I first brought Bunky home.

Trav, if you and Emma can handle it... I'd opt for letting Emma raise another kitty.

Letting Bunky have a decent quality of life rather than the surgery 'n' stuff... yeah... I've done that. It's the better way to go, I think.

The surgery and stuff was never really an option for me financially anyway. My only other option was to have him put down right then and there to ease both of our suffering.

I was glad to find out about the "extension" option mostly because I'd like a little time for myself and a couple others to say goodbye in a decent manner.

He is acting better already, up and about with similar routine, but he's not eating very much at all. If his appetite doesn't improve there's no way he'll make it 2weeks to another steroid shot. With the improvement I've seen in his activity, I'm hoping the appetite will respond as well.

Otherwise he'll soon be too weak to get around. My very first cat went that way due to thyroid issues. Seeing a bag of bones that you love miss an attempted jump and crash to the floor is totally heart wrenching. That's when I knew for sure it was time. :(
