My English Toffee -- received. (I posted that Toffee Days Are Here Again when it showed up)

No, I want more ARC or Peppermint Taffy. But if one of them goes Fire Kitty before the Thankful sale ends tomorrow, I'll buy the one that isn't FK via a 6-pack at the same time.

Okay... I was confused :)

PT is going to miss the T-day sale... it's 23 jumps away. I don't think ARC is going to make it before year-end. :(

Probably part of my "issues" with Apple, but $100 for a 4GB upgrade sounds like robbery to me. Normally I'd say "RAM is cheap, go for the quad and get the RAM later". I've always been able to find RAM cheaper than the place I buy the computer from.

For my laptop, I can go from 8GB (current) to 16 (2x8) for around $50-60. But if that's the best deal around for an Apple, then you may have to get it while you can, I dunno.

Don't know why you're shopping in Europe either. Newegg has a 1TB USB 3.0 for $70 and Amazon has a 3TB USB 3.0 for $107. Neither involves a rebate, both have free shipping.

That's VERY good to know for me! I'm gonna need to expand my online storage here pretty soon. :)

I've been building and repairing PCs since before the internet hit big back in the mid 80's. I was an electronics technician back than but have since switched over entirely to computers.

The first computer I ever fixed was (are you sitting down?) a "Sperry Univac".

Looked something similar to this but without the nice keypad.

Scary that most of the google images are black & white.

BH Photo Video isn't in Europe, silly. They're on 9th Avenue in Manhattan -- half a block from where I used to work. They are a great, great store. It's a crummy location to get to (as I well know from the commute) but it's always jam packed because all the professional photographers use them. (It's empty right now because they're Hassidic and don't earn money on the Sabbath. And they don't just pay lip service to it. Online ordering from the website is suspended until sunset tomorrow. I can respect that unlike the Orthodox women who have their curling irons on timers so they can set their hair before going to synagogue. If you believe (I don't), follow the rules. Don't look for a way around them.)

I've got the 1TB Canvio. Have to send it back to Toshiba. Formatting it for the Mac didn't work. (And, whatever I buy has to be compatible with OS 10.8 -- a lot of them are only up to 10.6)

Back in the early 80s I temped for Sperry for almost a year. Theirs was my first WP program. Back in those days, manuals were written in pure "Geek" so being there was the best way to learn. Phil, who actually wrote their program, was in my office. If we wanted to learn to do something new, we'd just yell for him to come over. :D

Then came Wang and some wacky program we used at Mirabella that required everything to be coded -- it was like typing in HTML all the time -- that was supposed to be better for writers and editors as it was the only program in those days that tracked changes. Finally came Word.

Woohoo! Got my STRAWBERRY CHEEZCAKEZ!!!!

Thanks for the quick-ship Deej! You're awesome (like the CHEEZCAKEZ)!

Such a contented sigh on the first vape...I'd been without almost a MONTH! (First time without since I found you like a year ago!)

How the heck did THAT happen??

Deej tastes like Cheezcakez? Maybe I'll go to the next vapefest he attends.

First taste is free! :: snicker ::

You were asking about a European hardrive with american adapter. So... :p

Check out their website. It's one of my "go to" stores for researching electronics prices (with Amazon, New Egg & J&R.) Any place with a cheaper price is usually shady or weird. (And never, ever shop at Data Vision -- even if they pay you to take the item.)

Those sorts of things ran 'on top". At the very core if the main CPU itself ever got shut down you couldn't just turn it back on like today's computers. You'd have to do what's called a manual bootstrap. Basically it was entering this long list of machine language code (just numbers listed in hexadecimal coded binary) using those toggle switches on the front.

You'd set a "word" using the long line of toggle switches (light either on or off) and the enter switch one time. Do that whole lot of times and hope you don't screwup, took like an hour or more. After that the computer was "booted" and ready to run the higher level things from paper tape or those huge magnetic disks.

What time does the sale end tomorrow? I have enough PT to last until the Fire Kitty finds it so I'll do a 6 pack of the other tomorrow. (Right now I have to deal with Dad's finances and computer shopping.)

Tiger Direct used to be one of those in the "shady or weird" catagory. But they've done a lot over the years to improve their image and service. Though I don't use them often, I'd consider them an alternative. They are the only (semi-respectable) place I've ever seen that regularly competes with Newegg and Amazon prices.

Places like J&R & BH I find to be more expensive overall. They do sometimes have some very good specials on individual items. But if I'm putting together a "package" or buying something that needs accessories to work out of the box, and trying to get it all on the same shipment, 9 times out of 10 it will probably end up being Newegg or Amazon that comes in the lowest for everything.

LOL good example: Bought a Roku XS for a xmas present, Best Buy has them on sale for $79 + I had a $50 Best Buy gift card laying around for like a year. Great deal for me right? The lowest I could find an HDMI cable there was 2 for $19, their $5.49 model was (of course) out of stock. Kind of soured the whole deal for me mentally. Could be worse I guess, and it doesn't hurt to have a spare.

I've come to quite like Tiger Direct. I used to go to physical stores like PC Club and the like for my hardware needs, but they all went out of business.

My last build was done with stuff picked up at Tiger. Bought my very first pre-built from them 2 months ago, too.

But, yeah, they used to be shady.

You know they cleaned up their image when they got featured in an episode of Warehouse 13 last season (?).

LOL! Good show! I like that show a lot, been watching it on Netflix. Caught the first couple seasons, have seen much of the latest seson yet. Not sure if I like that they brought in another main character.

Well having been unemployed since March when I was laid off, I try to be a little more frugal. So was just waiting on the Firekitty before replenishing! :)

keep watching... :)

I love Warehouse 13! I watch it on Hulu. I know what you mean about the new character, though I ended up really liking him. And like Deej said, keep watching. LOVE HG Wells, BTW! :)
